Libertarianism is bullshit

This piece may, or may not, incite anger amongst some of you, but frankly, that is the least of my concerns, because not unlike Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, I can say whatever I want to. Before I begin, however, I’d like to explain just what a Libertarian is for those of you who may not know.

Libertarians are, essentially, anarchists without the chutzpah to make a Molotov cocktail and lob it at a police car. Comprised almost exclusively of rich, white men, or upper-middle class, white, college students who smoke too much pot, it is a political philosophy inasmuch as hedonism is a moral philosophy. This comparison is not altogether tangential, as Libertarians like to espouse the doctrine of “free and unfettered market capitalism,” which is a sort of hedonism in and of itself.

The entire philosophy of Libertarianism is, in fact, a sham, and little more than prolefeed disguised as a legitimate political belief. Now, of course, this is a blanket statement, and should be taken as such, but certainly, we can make SOME generalizations if Libertarianism is half the philosophy it claims to be, since it must, therefore, have SOME tenets that are universally held.

Libertarianism (Christ, I am already tired of the length of this word) is the belief in deregulation. While some are economic libertarians, and think that only the Almighty Dollar should rule over the market, others are social libertarians, who think that the government ought to fuck off and let me do huge bonghits, bro. And then, of course, you have Objectivists who, in between fantasizing about sliding their tongues in the space between her incisors, believe that the pursuit of one’s own happiness is the utmost in moral obligation.

That's fine to an extent, since clever people are certainly social assets.

But not everyone is clever.

Half of everyone is below average intelligence. So, what's the deal for them? Getting ripped off by the other half because, after all, they're dumb, right?

You see this on DU every day. Some dumb person does some dumb thing and there is a clamor to be the first to shout "Darwin" or "serves him right" or whatever.

I like the conclusion:

"Now, yes, there are some good nuggets to be found in Libertarian philosophy, but it does not mean it should be seen as viable. Finding a turd comprised mostly of corn does not make it a side dish – it is still shit."

When I talk to them the only thought that comes to mind is a 12 yr olds clubhouse with a big sign that says "the only rule is there are no rules". I'm told they don't want to be told how much they have to pay in wages & the want to refuse business to anyone they deem "unacceptable".

If this crap ever took hold & became the majority Idiocracy would be more than just an awesome movie. Hell in some ways we're already there (go ahead and count how many shows that are on tonight that should be titled Ow My Balls).

It's one or the other.

I guess a lucky few could possess both lovely qualities though.

As do most around here I'd like to think/hope.

I was specifically referring to right-wing economic libertarians.
