Doomsday Clock moves one minute closer to midnight

The Doomsday Clock, a symbolic gauge of nuclear danger, has moved one minute closer to midnight because of "inadequate progress" on nuclear and climate issues.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) announced the move - to five minutes before midnight - on Tuesday.

The clock last moved one minute back in 2010.

BAS said the failure of multiple nations to control the spread of nuclear weapons was a cause for worry.

Interesting that its been running since 1947.

Associated news from 4 years ago here :

Experts assessing the dangers posed to civilisation have added climate change to the prospect of nuclear annihilation as the greatest threats to humankind.

As a result, the group has moved the minute hand on its famous "Doomsday Clock" two minutes closer to midnight.

The concept timepiece, devised by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, now stands at five minutes to the hour.

The clock was first featured by the magazine 60 years ago, shortly after the US dropped its A-bombs on Japan.

Tues the symbolic Doomsday Clock was reset to five minutes before midnight. The clock is meant to quantify how close mankind is to global apocalypse. It had gained one minute in 2010, but that time was lost in today's move. The clock's hands returned to 11:55 p.m. Article resource: Doomsday Clock clicks one minute closer to 12.
