impressed with his bravado and savoir faire--he did cut quite the swathe when he was up on the Hill running OLA, before he stood for Congress with her daddy's backing. He could be charming (when he wasn't berating his staff for not being able to read his changeable mind!) and he did have no small amount of style.

But now, he's an older guy, 76 well-worn years old, a bit broken down, with health problems, he's tired, he's grumpy...and he's reading from his final act while she's coming into her 2nd chapter! She's at the height of her powers--old enough to know better and still young enough to do something about it. She is only 58--she still has a LOT of living to do.

She controls the purse strings, though--he's "not the boss of her"--as the little kids say!

He had an opportunity some time back to do the "Profile in Courage" thing. He built up a load of good will not just as a result of his conduct as a POW, but on the Hill with his Pork list (after he survived that banking scandal by going on the offensive) and his appeals for comity back in the day, before things got ugly between the parties, but now he's part of the whole partisan divide problem.

And he's just .... mean. And petty.

That may turn out to be the decision that ultimately makes the GOP irrelevant as a political party.

Seems Democrats are suffering from their own "Hubris" http://www.bradblog.com/?p=9878

In 2008, the Republicans were considered out. Yet, 2010 happened. Yes, President Obama (nice State of the Chamber of Commerce Speech he gave) did win with over 51% of the vote. It is a simple majority. While the Republicans managed to keep the House through gerrymandering in effect until 2020.

Sure, the Republican Party is fracturing. However, your masters have decided upon a new strategy of buying certain Democrats - Third-Way Democrats, the New Republicans, a certain DINO, President Obama.

A President Obama and key leaders in the Democratic Party that threw Democrats a few social goodies (gays in the military - about time but reversible with a Republican Congress and President, ACA - a thoroughly Republican health care nightmare, drone wars, assassinating American citizens without even the pretense of a trial, the continuing fraudclosure crisis, the expanding domination of Wall Street in our economy that is costing you money and economic well-being, etc.)

So, while Democrats are gloating over their petty wins while ignoring the co-opting of their party by the very plutocrats who are economically and socially bankrupting you...

You have become a de facto Reagan Republicanism.

Good job. Good job.

Obama and certain Democrats know suckers when they see them. Democratic voters should know a sucker when they look in the mirror.

The people who identify with that party are from another age that's quickly becoming extinct. As long as this type of dialogue is tolerated by Republicons, mainstream America will continue to identify these extreme, ancient attitudes with the GOP.

America wants to move forward, and the GOP is attempting to hold the country back, indeed dragging it backward to a time that most would prefer to leave in the past.
