(4,695 posts)I hope President Obama makes the voting record of Congressional members very public. Congress needs to be spotlighted. Americans are going to pay attention as the 2012 election did not stop the TEA on the carpet obstructionism. Our next chance to clean off the Carpet will be in the 2014 elections.

(17,505 posts)Yes it is. Do Repugs in government even know anything about their government?
Is this GOP Congress gonna DO anything? Anything at all?
The 1st cuts should be the pay to Congress critters and Senators who don't participate in governing.... which would be all the conservatives.

(27,461 posts)he's playing good cop with Obama, hoping to get a grand bargain like the one the GOP passed on in 2011. It's up to Obama whether he gets it.

(11,986 posts)Check it at 4:24. Blitzer asks, why not just let the President choose what to cut? Graham says, essentially, that's a bad idea. HE calls it a cop-out, and explains what would happen... saying that, IF that were to happen, "we" (the Republicans) will criticize everything he does, and he's using that to explain why he thinks Blitzer's suggestion of letting the President choose is a bad idea. Instead, he says, it is a bipartisan problem to solve, rather than being something to tell the President to do himself.
He's being honest in explaining what would happen, and he's also saying that he thinks, as a result, that's a bad way to go. That is very different form the impression given by the quote alone.

(24,726 posts)He will do just fine at it. In part, because he has the American people behind him. He speaks intelligently to us, and knows we understand sacrifices have to be made. And he knows where to make them! I would be happy for it to be handed over to him, and I think he will, too!

(16,993 posts)Playing games with the economy, lying, allowing American citizens to suffer who they've taken an oath to serve. It's all a game to them, but it's NOT a game, they're screwing with people's lives.
This is economic terrorism, worse than anything OBL has done to the country. How many people have died because of this? No access to affordable health care, a minimum wage that forces people to live in poverty, cutting back on education, social services, and everything else that people in need depend on.
Every last one of them should have their sorry butts REMOVED from the country, and be banned from returning. They are disgraceful, unsympathetic, monsters. And they're proud of their behavior. The founding fathers of this country must be furious that the protections they so carefully put in place for everyone are being made a mockery of.

(2,870 posts)a requirement on the GOP side in South Carolina... as it is in my state of Oklahoma. Lack of said hatred will get a GOPer primaried. Heck, in my state the percentage of self-described democrats that can't stand President Obama is appalling.
All that said, Graham is dumb as a box of rocks to say this publicly.... but it probably won't cost him a point in South Carolina.

(27,461 posts)in the context this OP leaves out, he is striking a pose of compromise, in contrast to his party's intransigence, which he is posing as criticizing.
Still Sensible
(2,870 posts)so long as he spews the "I-detest-Obama" line, a little compromise is forgiven in such a state. In some states, GOP governors are [gasp] expanding Medicaid under Obamacare... but they'll still regurgitate the Obama hatred and be by and large forgiven by their folks... In states like South Carolina, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arizona, their principles don't matter today--their blind hatred of the President does.
