9. How do they do it?
Tue May 21, 2013, 12:29 PM
May 2013

How do they turn EVERY event into the exact right opportunity to further their agenda? They're always ready on the spot to seize the moment, whether it's a natural disaster or a bombing in Boston or a beautiful sunny day. They take it and use it to get exactly what they've always wanted. Never seen anything like it.

Why can't Dems be prepared like that? We take everything case by case, we consider every point of view, including Republicans', and we too often are left unable to catapult the RW propaganda.

An example I'd like to see right now. POTUS goes on the TV and says, "See? THIS is why we need a federal government. THIS is why we all have to pay taxes. THIS is why we need to ring up these tax cheats and deadbeat corporations. THIS is why we have to stop whining about trivial shit and grow the hell up as a people. Because people suffer and because, as a community, we can ease some of that suffering. Because we can and because, whenever it's possible, we have to."

This bastard is taking advantage of a horrible disaster to gain political leverage. Anyone I know who considers themselves liberal or progressive wouldn't dream of that. People who were devastated by that storm need help, both now and in the next year or so. We know that the only entity able to provide help on that kind of scale is the federal government.

The titles don't mean sweet shine-ola without the convictions to back them up.

As a Christian (Lutheran), I get so damn embarrassed when those on the far right who claim to be Christian unquestioningly buy into the Republican/Objectivist/Social Darwinist/Ron/Rand Paul philosophy of "screw the poor" when both the Jewish Mosaic Law of the Hebrew Bible and the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, St Paul and St James clearly excoriate those who mistreat the poor. If Sen. Coburn is a Southern Baptist Deacon, he should well know this.

If he is a medical doctor, chances are very good that he belongs to the AMA...who have been blocking universal health care for decades. Not exactly in line with the Hippocratic Oath, is it?

As an American and a veteran who once took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States and of my State (I was in the Air National Guard), I get equally embarrassed by those (especially on the Ron/Rand Paul side) who say "it's not the job of government to help the poor, because it's not in the Constitution." How many of these same "hardcore Constitutionalists" would support an amendment guaranteeing universal health care, a living wage, etc?

Of course, Sen. Coburn had no problems with haemorrhaging the blood of our troops and shooting the money of our country down a rat-hole to support G.W. Bush's grudge match against Saddam Hussein.

I am frankly surprised (pleasantly) that Republican Gov. Mary Fallin didn't refuse Federal aid when President Obama reached out to her.

Even if Coburn would singlehandedly be responsible for Oklahoma getting not one cent of federal aid, and leave the injured, the homeless and the starving to fend for themselves, and tell the people of his state they must rebuild with their own bare hands.....

Even if he were to tell that to the people of Oklahoma in just those words, and laugh in their faces while saying it........

They would STILL re-elect him over any Democrat next time around. His margin might shrink by a point or two, but his Senate seat would be in no danger whatsoever. That is American political reality in 2013.

I mean - really, truly angry. This guy though... pisses me off more than I thought possible. Basically, this overpaid sack of shit makes a living by seeking out federal programs to destroy and refusing aid to disaster victims... even when the victims are from his own area....

This is so damn disgusting I can't imagine how this sorry stain of shit on the pimple of the ass of a syphilis infected warthog can remain in office. Basically, here's a guy who has plenty of money, some of the best health care in the world, who has the resources to survive in a luxury that most of us can only imagine... and he has the audacity, the nerve, the complete and utter fucking lack of compassion to deny help for people unless there are matching budget cuts?

I'll call it what it is - treason, greed, a selfish pursuit of more campaign money even if it means utterly rejecting and ignoring the needs of those he is supposed to represent. Though I do not believe in hell, I devoutly believe that we should create such a place for Tom Coburn and those of his ilk.
