We have already passed the point of no return for catastrophic climate change - the 400 ppm threshold was a little like seeing the big sign with sirens that says "Bridge out." and then plowing right through the barricade anyway. At the current rate of RISING CO2 emissions, it has become pointless to talk about prevention - the CO2 being poured into the atmosphere is soon to be joined by methane gas from the former-permafrost regions and when that starts, it is truly game over for about 6 of the 7 billion people on Earth.

No one took the warnings seriously when they started.
No one took the warnings seriously when the evidence started mounting.
No one stands a chance alone in the end...only those with strong communal instincts (bye-bye "mountain men&quot are going to survive. People who have been raised to doubt the theory of evolution are totally ill-equipped to handle the truth - much like our Neanderthal cousins, who once roamed the Earth with us, we are facing our own extinction, only on a time scale drastically shortened by our own hand.

Unless someone comes up with solutions for REMOVING the CO2 at this point - not just limiting its additional output - the simple physics of light, heat, radiation and retention of these things by gases will settle things for good and all.

the last remaining GW deniers and corporate shills will shrug their shoulders and slink off into obscurity.

How many of them will stand up and say "oops, sorry our bad." And even if they do, then how much will that mean.

"Well, there's still some ice left", he chortled ecstatically.

"Yeah, its that Al Gore getting hysterical again", she chimed in contemptuously.

1979: 16855 km3,
2012: 3261 km3

3261 / 16855 = 19.3%

Global Warming: 2012 = 10th warmest year globally since 1880, and the 36th in a row above the 20th century average.

The 21st century's 12 years to date all rank among the 14 warmest on record. - StarTribune 1/16/13

"the earth has not warmed any in the last 15 years", says Rightie McRightRight, echoing what's he's heard numerous times on Faux News.
