FAIR TV: Pundits Attack Snowden, Maddow's Misinformation, WaPo Op-Ed Sales Job
By Peter Hart

This week: Pundits attack NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. Rachel Maddow makes false claims about Iran and nuclear weapons. And the Washington Post's new "Sponsored Views" feature will let let corporations and organizations post "responses" to the paper's op-ed pieces–for a price.

Anyone who has listened to or watched Rachel Maddow for any length of time can generally gather when she's adding either satire or irony to whatever it is she's saying... I distinctly had that impression with that extremely short, out-of-context clip. In all...fairness, not enough of the clip with shown to properly characterize Maddow's comments except in the very limited context that this speaker wants you to have access to. I would classify this as dubious at best.

what's odd about her nuclear programs claim is how gratuitous it is. It has the hallmark of deliberate misinformation, a mixture of truths with a falsehood slipped in. I'll tell you, if I had heard this report, I would have come away thinking that Ahmadinejad acknowledged the nuclear program. I am well aware that Iran denies it, but without this FAIR item, I wouldn't have known that Ahmadinejad himself has consistently denied the program.

The link did not go straight to the video the first time through... and I have to admit to being a little lazy on occasion and didn't retry the link. I finally got it. The comment did seem perhaps a little out of place... the odd part is I'm sure I've heard discussion on the Rachel Maddow show of Ahmadinejad repeatedly denying a nuclear weaponization program... and even decrying such a thing. Perhaps I'm viewing the commentary in that light, and that is why it seems more sarcasm to me. *shrug*

Either way, If her reporting is suffering for whatever reason, I hope she improves. She's been a mainstay of information for me, along with others such as Thom Hartman and many others for quite some time.

*edited for spelling*

... and admits to being less than fair with that information.

Is she up to it? I hope so.

CBS is about the MOST corporate of the networks, with NBC following close behind. This is why I have fallen away from any of what used to be considered "progressive" MSNBC shows.

Somehow, the American people are disengaged from the fifth estate. I can see why more and more.

Thank you for the post!
