Related: About this forumThom Hartmann: What?! Florida just Outlawed Sick Leave
Brendan Fischer, PR Watch/ALEC Exposed, joins Thom Hartmann. Florida Governor Rick Scott signed into a law a bill that prohibits local governments from passing any law requiring businesses to provide their employees with paid sick leave. The Sunshine State measure is the latest example of an ALEC backed push for what some commentators are calling "preemption bills" - legislative proposals designed to cut the fight for paid sick leave off right at the root. The conservative group has also lent its support to similar sick leave killing bills in states like Missisippi - Wisconsin - and Michigan.

(8,830 posts)3. Okay, this is a grossly horrible thing to do
but it isn't correct to say he "banned" sick leave.
Florida Governor Rick Scott signed into a law a bill that prohibits local governments from passing any law requiring businesses to provide their employees with paid sick leave.
That law gives businesses the right to be complete dicks and take away or not offer paid sick leave - but it does not REQUIRE them to stop offering it.
That isn't much better, but it isn't the same as the governor banning paid sick leave.

(17,301 posts)5. Oh yeah, that's a good idea for the next epidemic.
Force sick people to work. That will ensure the disease spreads and spreads quickly. Any disease your food prepper has, you will very likely get too. Do you think your waiter with the head cold didn't sneeze in your food? Let's just hope when the bus boy blew his nose he didn't touch anything on your table.
Wow, the short sighted greed is brain numbing.
