not just for the musical legacy but for political engagement and the high price she paid for it-- withholding taxes as a political statement during the Vietnam war made her an exile for the last thirty years of her life

Tryon is a beautiful town, and I'm grateful that her family and friends could see a statue erected there in her honor. This story from 2010 indicates they were planning to restore her birthplace-- hope they succeeded.
