(18,652 posts)They may spout off about guns, god and hating government but they're really pawns of the Kochs and want the Kochead $$$. I really would like our DOJ and EPA to get off their asses and sue for environmental violations. But of course, there's only a skeletal crew at those agencies now that the Kochs and their minions have managed to shut down gov.
A perfect conclusion for the Koch Bros. who want to protect their $110 billion, polluting monopolies and make more $$$ without spending on taxes.

And kept calling Gwen Ifill "Judy" last night, while weaseling out of the question of whether she would give up pay during the shutdown.

Anarchists should NOT be ruling the day!!! I'm sorry, but anarchists DON'T deserve a seat at the table. Any more than a dug-in terrorist bomber would deserve it. Because they don't come to negotiate or give-and-take or talk things over. They come only to blow things up and destroy and ransack and pillage and burn. People who don't believe in government have NO BUSINESS WHATSOEVER being in government in ANY way - since all they want to do is DO AWAY WITH that government.

(32,003 posts)The NYTimes Editorial Board is not fooled -
By midnight on Tuesday, the leadership failure of Speaker John Boehner was complete. By encouraging the impossible quest of House Republicans to dismantle health care reform, he pushed the country into a government shutdown that will now begin to take a grievous economic toll.
At any point, Mr. Boehner could have stopped it. Had he put on the floor a simple temporary spending resolution to keep the government open, without the outrageous demands to delay or defund the health reform law, it could easily have passed the House with a strong majority including with sizable support from Republican members, many of whom are aware of how badly this collapse will damage their party.
But Mr. Boehner refused ...

(32,003 posts)There is a very small group of folks controlling a lot of money in this country (think Walton & Koch mainly - those 2 families alone control nearly 50% of the wealth in this country). That is where the problem is. They happen to be old, white & misogynist so that is one reason groups like Planned Parenthood are being attacked - but mostly their agenda is protection of their own wealth. The reality is that when just a few people have so much control you are going to be subjected to their crazed world view. It's time to seriously work on economic inequality in this country.
ETA - And you are correct to make the link that those are the bozos supporting folks like Boehner. He happens to be their figurehead right now. If he's voted out it will be someone else. You're spot on about that.

(8,200 posts)This is especially true of hate radio, but so-called reporters like Chuck Fraud and The Weasel Wolf Blitser are little better. Blitser, with Newt the Slimy Salamander at his side, was criticizing President Obama for not meeting with the outlaw Repuks to arrange a compromise. What in the hell does he think there is to compromise on? The Repuks have been planning on this action since spring when the refused to form a joint budget commission.

I love the part where Rachel asks Rep. Jan Schakowski, "...is there any institutional memory in this Congress about the last time there was a government shutdown... (informing them about this event) ...or is this like a bunch of goldfish swimming around a small bowl being surprised by the castle every time?"
We're in a big hole and I hope there's a rope or a ladder near-by that someone will use to help us out of it.
I am certain this is a true case of intentional violation of the oath of office and prosecution proceedings should begin immediately.

(4,437 posts)That is majorly huge government interference in my life. The GOP is so full of shit. You have to have car insurance, home insurance, flood insurance, why not health insurance? It saves the taxpayers money. If it's not mandated, we are still paying. Everyone not covered goes to the emergency room when they are sick, right? Do you really think that cost is not passed on to you? Wake up, trolls. We need single payer health care eventually and should press for mandatory insurance if you own a firearm. Gunshot victims go immediately to the emergency room in most cases. Do you think they are insured? The ACA is the best we have for now. The rethugs have a big fat zero for an alternative. The rw are in the pockets of huge medical, insurance and pharmaceutical lobbyists.
Please, dems, if there is someone in your state up for reelection this 2014....please don't stay home. VOTE in the primarys. Get these greedy, selfish parasites out of our govenment. Congress has government health care by the way. Top of the line. On our taxpayer dollars. I hope it's true that Congress has to get their's the same way we do now. That would be so effing fantastic.

(41,203 posts)I wonder what these Republicans would say if a trade union, or several trade unions, called a strike which brought much of the country to a standstill, and threatened to damage the world economy?
Yet doing the equivalent themselves is 'their idea of fun'.
If they EVER again make any sort of attack on public sector unions, or the right to strike, this should be pointed out!
