(5,946 posts)but knowing Indian and Pakistani people at work, would that be considered an insult by her nation? I mean Hindus and muslims did/do not have the best relations.

(4,103 posts)I was recently listening to BBC News and they were interviewing woman in her region of Pakistan and the majority of them did not see her as a hero, they saw her as pretentious, full of herself and too outspoken. They have been brainwashed generation after generation to believe women should be seen and not heard, hopefully her bravery can help the youth of Afghanistan and Pakistan to begin to reverse this dead end religious right wing thinking and the following generations of women in Pakistan and Afghanistan can break free of this Taliban bondage.

(6,119 posts)they are similar. They both strongly believe in education of girls and women,,so strongly they risk their lives for it.
During Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, Malalai Joya's father took his family to Pakistan, to a refugee camp where he knew his daughters would be educated. Malalai learned quickly and would go back to camp and teach the women to read and write. She was only 13. She was asked and agreed to go into Afghanistan and teach girls to read and write in underground schools during the reign of warlords and Taliban, risking their lives in doing so.. She went on to open a women's clinic and dodging assassination attempts and after US invasion and occupation she was the youngest women elected to Parliament where she called out the warlords who were also elected they kicked her out. Her life is continually threatened but she continues speaking out "for freedom loving people in Afghanistan" and everywhere.
I hope you get a chance to see her if she comes to or near your town during her US tour.

If not, get her book also, and Malala also, and share them with others. Get one for your local library.

BTW.... I think that's great.
Malala was also a member of the International Marxist Tendency, supporting international socialism as professed by the Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky. She sent a message to the group's thirty-second congress on March 9, 2013 asserting that members needed to push ahead in their struggle for socialism and make education reform a priority in advancing the movement

Her message to the conference she couldn't attend because of injuries.
"I am convinced Socialism is the only answer and I urge all comrades to take this struggle to a victorious conclusion. Only this will free us from the chains of bigotry and exploitation. - Malala Yousafzai
