As Jon Stewart frequently remarks, these people make his job easier because the jokes write themselves.

Where were they when Bashir was forced to resign? I don't remember them stomping their feet about freedom of speech. No, instead they were stomping their feet over Bashir saying such horrible things about a good patriot like Sarah Palin.

The hypocrisy is so blatant in these people it makes me

ďThe First Amendment, like the constitution generally, only applies to the government, so if the government stops someone from talking or punishes them, thatís a First Amendment issue. If a private person says I wonít hire you or let you be on TV anymore, thatís not,Ē Roosevelt said.
ďThe idea is we donít let the government decide whatís a good opinion, but we do let individuals decide what they think is offensive and what should be rewarded and what should be discouraged. Thatís the way the marketplace of ideas is supposed to work,Ē

Palin probably approves of the attempts to make English the official language of the U.S., but she probably doesn't realize that she doesn't speak it. She speaks something that is kind of a cross between Yoda and Jabberwocky.

To Sarah it means "take more responsibility." Surely we can translate that from Sarahspeak by now. It's among the easier to translate from the original.

8. MSNBC Chose to fire Bashir

A&E Chose to suspend the duck dynasty star. There were consequences for both of them. As far as Sarah Palin is concerned, she is a politician pandering to her constituents and saw an opportunity to have people talk about her. Looks like she succeeded.

10. Yes, this.

There really is no free speech issue in either case. Both had the right to say what they wanted, neither is facing legal repercussions for it, but their employers are well within their rights to distance themselves from the comments (by suspending, firing...whatever). Not any different than the Dixie Chicks facing a backlash for the things they said. You're a public figure, go ahead and say what you want, but accept the consequences.

IIRC, the backlash against the Dixie Chicks was mostly orchestrated by Clear Chanel, one of the biggest (and quite right wing) media giants in the country. Where does free speech go when the air waves are all controlled by huge corporations with their own agendas to promote?

for a question such as yours. It has the ability of making the backdoor apologists for Palin and her ilk quiet down. The Dixie Chicks got a raw deal and I still admire the courage they showed in the face of uberpatriotism based on a war that was prosecuted on a BIG lie. The hundreds of thousands of dead souls are screaming for justice one day. The silence to your question was thunderous.

Twinkle twinkle Tea Party star
How i wonder where you are.

Are you on Venus or are you on Mars?
Are you on a planet with magical cars?

Is the sky orange, purple or blue?
Do you get your advice from the Great Gazoo?

Back here on Earth your opinions are crazy,
But you do have the hair of a young Patrick Swayze

So keep posting on Facebook and also on Twitter
Cuz if you stop, people might think you a quitter

it has NOTHING to do with corporate decisions. besides, are you not one of those who believes in the free market, in the right/duty of corporations to make decisions based on whatever criteria they choose? sucks when those decisions bite you and your kind in the butt, though, does it not?

33. Sister Sarah on Twitter is like ice cream on a birthday cake . . . a perfect match!!!

As long as you're not lactose intolerant!!

Ya gotta love Twitter . . it's the perfect medium for someone as ignorant, racist, and homophobic as Sister Sarah -- who so proudly displays her low IQ to the entire world whenever she has the chance -- to use a computer to spew her completely ignorant opinions of the Constitution.

Sister Sarah took 6 years to go to 5 different colleges to obtain her bachelor's degree in communication.
SISTER SARAH HAS A DEGREE IN COMMUNICATION!!!!
Yet she can barely talk without biting her tongue!

What Sister Sarah actually said was even more convoluted than the quote EarlG used:
Free speech is endangered species; those "intolerants" hatin' & taking on Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing personal opinion take on us all

I copied that right off of her Twitter page.

If ABC were to give Sister Sarah a tv program of her own so she could give her opinions to everyone, and then manage the show like "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" so that Sister Sarah could call one of her friends and use one of her 3 "lifelines", it would be an overnight sensation.
They could turn it into a nightly broadcast and run it every night during the week.
I guarantee it would make their network more money than Wheel of Fortune!!

She already landed one with the obscure extended-cable Sportsman Channel, starting next April. With her unique way with words, it won't be long before she is replaced with someone who doesn't need a teleprompter to host an outdoor program.

What's interesting right now is that on the Fox Hannity show last night she was pimping for the DD crew to take their duck call business and fake redneckness off A&E and move to that same Sportsman Channel..

49. My idea is better because it would be on a national tv channel with a bigger audience.

I don't know which Sportsman channel you're talking about.
I think rather than hiding the unbrilliance of Sister Sarah by having her screech on some obscure cable tv channel, they need to have her on something more mainstream, like ABC.
Since it has a bigger market share with a bigger national audience.

I think it would be more productive for this country for even more people to see through the tortured reasoning that she uses to ply her trade in spewing racism, homophobia, and fearmongering -- which have now become the 3 basic tenets of the entire Republican party, as a result of being overwhlemed by the Tea Party coalition that highjacked that political party 4 years ago.

Just about all mainstream media outlets have pointed out that Sarah Palin has come to the defense of Phil Robertson by saying free speech is under attack. So far I have not seen any of them point out that she had a different view of free speech during the Martin Bashir dust up.

39. excellent example of the invisible advantage the RW has - their radio monopoly- a propaganda op

1200 giant megaphones reaching 50 mil a week with a think tank messaging coordinated at the local and national level make sure the feedback to media producers and staff is in their favor.

it's been working for 25 years. for this kind of issue the outrage they can generate is very loud and clear. when limbaugh, hannity, and probably at least half a dozen carnival barkers per state all chew the same talking points the hypocrisy is irrelevant, and the effect is noticeable. unfortunately the left usually doesn't notice until it's too late because they can't read what's going on and they sure the hell aren't going to listen to those assholes on the ay-em radio.

to top it all off, many of our major state funded (liberal) college sports teams support RW radio stations when, in exchange for a small amount of money, let them ride their team mascots.

41. Nor has the mainstream media criticized the other thing Phil Robertson said,

Namely, his whitewash of the Jim Crow era of the American South in his youth:

"I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field.... They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people' ó not a word!.... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

For a educated man with a master's degree to say that? Incredibly obtuse. He has called himself "white trash", but that entire comment reeks of white privilege.
