Certainly, Boehner, Cantor and Ryan are burning the midnight oil (the few days they're actually in session), trying to offset the cost of their shutdown. Surely we'll hear them crowing about how they've paid for their stunt out of their own pockets instead of with taxpayer dollars! Right?

War in Afghanistan, Iraq, on drugs should all be halted instantly. Yes a lot of people in the MIC would be out of work, we should have plans for that.

How long ago did "The Day the Earth Stood Still" come out - and no-one has a contingency plan on the books????

They saved 6.4 billion over ten years from the federal budget (which is about 3 1/2 trillion dollars a year)
They cost the US economy 24 billion dollars this year (The US GDP is about 16 trillion dollars). I'm not sure what the impact of the 6.4 billion THIS year will be on future years, though, so the economic losses could be much greater.

Republicans certainly weren't concerned about involving our country in 2 Multi-Trillion dollar wars (with loss and maiming of thousands of US and coalition troops) that has accomplished little and made the situation in the Middle East much worse. Republicans have no problem protecting and increasing military budgets and protecting and increasing the wealth of the richest of the rich while pushing legislation that takes necessities away from those that have little. How can the unemployed find jobs when the jobs have been and will continually be sent overseas. Republicans have no solutions, just opposition.

That so many Americans are duped into supporting the GOP and vote against their own economic well-being so consistently.

20. New unemployment policy
Tue Jan 7, 2014, 06:27 PM

America needs to develop a new unemployment policy coupled to the current at will business policy.

Most of America falls under the ‘At Will Principle’. This basic notion needs to be revised along with unemployment.

A retraining policy for those jobs that disappear coupled to a basic sustenance is a must, because the failed education, or the greed that put people out of work. For all those Romney sorts that sell business to overseas entities for profit. A retraining plan that match the business environment must be in place with unemployment benefits.

Actually more in place than waiting to be terminated. A new age where the electorate can decide to change places in the business environment, to quit and go to unemployment and retraining. Especially ridding those business that do not participate in the Common Wealth as a tax paying entity. America is recognizing that it is at a conscious moment in time in the development and governance of basic capitalism.

Of course, Rush Limbaugh was in a rant against any unemployment benefits or retaining. Not explaining that Congress and Senate decisions determine such difficult times because of massive poor governance by those very people. Like generating wars without taxes, or a sequestered law that demands the president cut services to balance the budget because of extra spending that is corruption and profiteering by the well connected secret planning political and business people.

It was interesting for the first time on hate radio commentators for the right wing admitted the failure in Iraq and the eternal war prone culture in the middle-east as something of a basic nature of Islam.

They did leave out that Islam thinks Americans are infidels and should be wiped off the face of the earth. Bush and Cheney knew about that intrinsic culture for the Americans because Islam is their main religion and it is the basic government by which the people live by.

Whereas, in America we have exactly the opposite as in freedom of religion and separation from government. America has been in violation of that basic principle of our own very Constitution that is if many that believe in Islam they are free to do so as long as they don’t kill Americans, or in this case other Iraqi in the name of religion. But it is not an American responsibility to give our treasure to help Iraqi determine what to believe in.

...the Dems strategy should be to try to increase taxes on the 1% by the minuscule amount necessary to cover the expense of the extension. This wouldn't be more than a few tenths of a percent of of the 1%'s total income.

The lesson here is to show that the GOP is more interested in saving billionaires a few dollars than helping the unemployed or anybody else for that matter.

zzzzzz

hello the Bush Tax cuts never were paid for because they were supposed to expire. They didn't. X_X Biggest thing killing the economy are the bush tax cuts that WERE NOT PAID FOR!!! and someone is worrying about 6 billion that hasn't gotten out of the senate let alone the house. It'll take more months than what they spend in 1/2 a month in October just to get $6 billion passed. wonder how much they'll spend just but delaying it. not to mention it helps the economy. Tax Cuts don't.
