Neil deGrasse Tyson got that right.
It's almost certain that there are many billions of universes beyond our own.
The physics that created our Universe and everything in it likely existed before our Universe came into existence, likely still exists right now, and will likely continue to exist long after our Universe has died.
Using the same logic: why should a lump of matter only be able to create my consciousness one time? Is there some sort of invisible sky ledger that crosses my consciousness off the list to prevent future occurrences of my consciousness? That sounds like magic to me.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,365 posts)that the universe we see could be one 'bubble' in a sort of "foam" of universes.
I find that idea particularly compelling. When you make suds in your kitchen sink, how does each individual bubble manifest itself? Is each one identical, or are there minute differences? Do they reflect each others attributes?
As to your last paragraph, I tend to agree. Can you only exist once? How about a parallel or mirror you? How about the endless possible you's postulated in certain Star Trek TNG episodes? ("The BORG ARE EVERYWHERE!"
Fascinating to think about, either way.
