Bill Maher Takes Down Kristol: 'Tea Party Was About A Black President'

From the cursing, angry reaction of Bill Kristol, you can tell Maher hit a very raw nerve. Not only does Maher lay out the irony of what the Tea Baggers are supposed to be about (given the returns on investment from various 'bailouts' prove they were wrong) but also notes the ignorance of Kristol's position just by visiting the Tea Bagger websites where they are talking about anything BUT the financial issues of bailouts, etc.

When you have Bill Kristol get as mad as he gets in this video, you know you've touched upon a deeper truth, and he knows it.

From video description:

Bill Maher marked the fifth anniversary of the tea party Friday night by saying that the real origin of the group had everything to do with a "black president," namely Barack Obama. Taking a giant leap out of character and taking advantage of his place on HBO, conservative guest Bill Kristol shot back, "That is total bullshit!"

"Even you don't believe that," Kristol said to Maher, "you're just saying that."

"I totally believe that," Maher insisted. "A month after he took office, suddenly white people were very concerned about debt, even though Bush had raised the debt way more than Obama had. I don't remember a tea party then."

CNN contributor Margaret Hoover backed Kristol, saying that at first the tea party really was about fiscal issues, but went "off the rails" a bit in the ensuing years.

"They don't really care about the debt that much," Maher said. If you look at their websites, he said they are mostly talking about Benghazi, impeaching Obama and Obamacare. "I wonder if they ever really cared about the debt that much."

1. Another clip, Maher: Have You Ever Met a War You Didn't Love
Sat Mar 1, 2014, 01:17 AM
Mar 2014

Bill Maher and Bill Kristol went at it even harder Friday night over the Pentagon's proposed spending cuts. While Maher argued that the relatively minor cuts could not possibly hurt our country's massive military, Kristol saw them as potentially disastrous. Maher showed chart which was created by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation and has been making the rounds this week, to ask why the U.S. needs to spend more on defense than the next 10 countries combined.

Kristol called Maher's arguments "childish," calling military spending the "lowest it's ever been in the modern era," a suggestion the show's other guests could not agree with.

"Have you ever met a war you didn't love?" Maher asked Kristol. All Kristol could do was admit that he has supported military intervention by multiple administrations.

the crazy Tea Party sometimes Loves Putin Kristol can explain his position to them. as in they love Putin because he's white, because he married his childhood sweetheart (then divorced her I assume) because the DOG walks behind Putin instead of in front. Yeah or it'll be shot.... oh and Putin is white. They'd go full Commie before they got behind an American USA black President. They'd burn capitalism before going black. I don't agree with Maher on everything , but one reason Putin has so much power is Tea Party which controls the Republican party loves the guy. Hey I love James Bond too but usually I'm not rooting for Alex (006?) in Goldeneye For England James? No... For Me...

The original TP was about the Crown showing extreme Corporate favoritism in the form of highly unfavorable taxation policies for American businesses that put them at a huge competitive disadvantage with English corporations like the British East India Company. It wasn't about 'taxation w/o representation' or 'too high of income taxes' (there were none then) or anything of that nature. It was just about the tax and tariff structures being so far out of whack that Tea being grown in America (among other things like garments) couldn't compete on price with imported Tea from BEIC, and the British government was responsible for setting these f-ed up rules into place.

It's not just race at work -- there wouldn't be a "Tea Party" against Colin Powell, if he had run and won.

But racism is the ingredient that lets them swallow bullshit like it was chocolate, and they were already operating on the foundation of the bullshit-flinging machine they built to attack Clinton.

A Colin Powell would have had their impulses working at cross-purposes. But Obama, a black Democrat? All the foam outlets lined up in the same direction and had clearance to spew at full throttle.

The one thing in this whole episode that bothered me more than anything was on overtime, when Kristol said he thinks the right wing will take over the Senate in 2014 and NOONE disagreed. GET THE F'N VOTE OUT, or we stand to lose a lot. Come 2014 in Repub controls both houses, kiss everything this administration did or has tried to do goodbye, including ACA....I guarantee if Senate goes right, the first thing will be ACA appeal.

30. Lesson One in How Conservatives Rewrite History
Sat Mar 1, 2014, 09:44 PM
Mar 2014

It just makes me upset to listen to their "new and improved" version of tea party history. They'd love for you to believe it was about "fiscal responsibility" until (oh my) it went "off the rails". Thom Hartman said it very clearly *years* before the idea of a tea party was even imagined that when Republicans have the Presidency, they don't give a shit about deficits, but as soon as a Democrat takes the office, they will scream and cry like whiny little babies...and without fail that's what they did. I was hearing racial "jokes" and a whole lot of other bullshit from conservatives even before he won the Democratic primary.

Bill Maher has a lot more fortitude than I when it comes to listening to them rewrite events. But when has a conservative *ever* admitted they were wrong *before* they were personally injured by conservative policies? We're stuck with these luddites until the day we die. Question is, will we continue to let them have the upper hand by us not voting? I hope enough people show up this year to get rid of the overwhelming influence the tea party and conservatives have on government processes. Because we are assured that nothing will work right as long as they have the kind of influence they do. And this rewriting of history will only feed into the collective amnesia so many suffer come each election cycle.

Sun Mar 2, 2014, 04:30 AM
Mar 2014

It was formed from the shattering of the neoconservative bluster and world-view... an attempt to salvage the pieces by furiously rallying around St. Rand (and rebuking the bailouts).

I don't deny they're a bunch of racists, though.

The bailouts were 'wrong' in the sense that capitalism was supposed to send those captains of Finance to the dust bin and/or jail. But timing is everything and instead of being caught mis-managing the world, they were left in the drivers' seat until they had everyone fearing they would lose everything they had invested or even saved. The bankers had a kind of gun to our heads, so the only thing to do at that point was throw a lot of money at them in an attempt to keep the economy alive.

I'm sick and tired of our side constantly playing the race card. Seriously. It's always thrown out way too early in the game, keeps the focus away from the root cause and has essentially become a dog whistle similar to Benghazi on the right. Okay, maybe not like Benghazi to the right. Benghazi is a Republican mating call, which is far more intense than any dog whistle.

But, to be serious, the Democrat race card has heavily diminished the urgency when real racism does occur, such as a physical crime against someone of another race which is infinitely more harmful than any asshole spouting off some dim-bulb nonsense; commonly known as a "racial slur".

The TP came from a similar agenda to the Dupont Co. and their cohorts to take down FDR. Learning from that mistake, they exploited the use of useful idiots to spout off their own low-rent melodrama cries of bogus tyranny/socialism to stymie Obama and hinder what's necessary to get America on the right track. That's all it was. Astroturf and nothing more.
