Is the United States of America an Oligarchy? During the 2014 ISFLC, Jeremy Scahill speaks on the fact that in today's world behemoth corporations are able to buy off politicians and pull the strings to impact legislature. Washington, D.C. is a town that operates by campaign contributions and legal bribery in the form of campaign finance. What can the American people do to get their political representatives to represent them as opposed to the mega corporations. When will the people's voice be heard?

- But then I figured it wasn't my job to keep people from the truth. Most avoid it like the plague anyway. So springing it on them is probably the best way for them to get exposed.......

(8,821 posts)Scahill has enough personal courage and integrity for ten men.
I also love the Huxley quote. Have you ever read, After Many A Summer Dies The Swan? It's a wonderful book, and timeless in it's critique of the very wealthy.

(27,137 posts)...but thanks for the suggestion -- it's now on The List.

(7,661 posts)The Future of Freedom Foundation (FFF) is a nonprofit libertarian foundation based in Fairfax, Virginia. It was founded by libertarian author and former defense attorney Jacob G. Hornberger in 1989 in order to advance the libertarian philosophy by "providing an uncompromising moral and economic case for individual liberty, free markets, private property, and a limited government." Sheldon Richman is vice president and editor. James Bovard is a policy advisor.

So people are starting to see that this resurgent economy - well, resurgence refers to how the public is floating to the top of the tank the same way a dead goldfish does.
The average citizen is starting to realize that in the last five years, the only time that Obama demanded and got prime time TV bully pulpit coverage was for his insisting we needed to deluge Congress with requests of entering a war against Syria.
The Public refused to do that, and in the end there was only 17% support for his dirty lil new war. (Not that we are not subsidizing it anyway.)

(5,610 posts)I believe that you are in the majority of democrats who believe our choices are that limited.
If we would all Unite and vote in the best interest of the majority in the primaries especially, we CAN elect a populist progressive who
shuns big money and actually wants to save Americans. This is IMO.

(1,301 posts)Jeremy Scahill is totally right. I had just seen that same "RAND PAUL!" response directed at someone else in a different thread and couldn't resist busting out the snark here.
Especially living in the South, and seeing what an abject failure the DCCC strategy of "not quite as right-wing as the Republican" has been, I think it's all about the populism--and about not being satisfied with whatever pathetic excuse for a candidate is anointed to fail in yet another woefully-funded and even-more-woefully-messaged campaign.

(5,610 posts)I Really hope that we can overthrow corporatism and that it will require a third party. I too live in the south. Welcome y'all...
