Everyone knows the only reason the south is so conservative is because of race. The Democratic Party is fighting a 50 year backlash because the party believes everyone should be treated fairly and equally. The GOP builds power off of people who fight these things. This struggle extends to women's rights, immigration, LGBT issues and even economics.

I had a very wise political science professor in college who concluded that up to a third of all of the GOP support is based solely on race.

The south (as well as several other sections of the country) isn't red because of god, the economy, or even the size of government. It is because of race. PERIOD.
