We need highly trained, well compensated officers. Low pay means, generally low quality cops that tend to have that shoot instead of apprehend mentality. STOP THE MADNESS! Look at England

Very disturbing. The man's condition is unclear at the end, but you hear sobbing...

7. Agreed, but the point is why is the Police first response always to fire their weapon?

Law enforcement's job is supposed to be to assess, then defuse and de-escalate a situation. But modern policing's response is always "go in hard" which just provokes, antagonizes and escalates a situation.

This incident is absolutely appalling.

I was afraid he had a gun.
Problem is that the proliferation of guns makes it likely.

he emptied the clip. this cop should face criminal charges and be convicted of a felony for this so he can never own a weapon again.

11. The cops are trained to respond as if everyone is a potential criminal

But when you see an old gimpy guy getting out of his truck, doesn't anything click in your brain that he's an old fart and may not react the way some young kid might.

People are not robots and civilians have not been trained how to not be shot by police. Unfortunately.

I don't blame the cop so much as the way they are training the cops, regardless of who they might be dealing with. And remember...this is America the land of guns...where The NRA fights tooth and nail for guns to be sold to everyone for every situation. So how are cops trained? That most people might have a gun. It's partly this damn gun culture.

the old guy was released from the hospital and will be OK. But nobody should be shot in the chest at 70 years old because of something like this.

Innocent people being shot. Sickening.

However, you should NEVER get out of your car when pulled over. This is the possible result. Just think what the result could have been if the cop was a bad shot and hit him in the head. WOW.
