Related: About this forumTYT: Heart-Breaking Anti-Obamacare Ad Shows Woman Suffering From Bullshit
"This emotional and gut-wrenching attack ad should be every Democrat's worst nightmare, combining references to President Obama's 4-Pinocchio promise (PolitiFact's "Lie of the Year" with a raw account of a woman who says she suffered because of the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare.
But do the facts match the emotions?
First of all, many viewers might think Boonstra lost her doctor, as she mentions her "wonderful doctor" and then says her plan was canceled. But AFP confirms that she was able to find a plan, via Blue Cross Blue Shield, that had her doctor in its network.
Local news reports recount that Boonstra, like many Americans, initially had trouble getting a plan because of the botched launch of healthcare.gov. No doubt that was a difficult experience. She then was invited by her local member of Congress to attend the State of the Union address and participated in a Republican National Committee news conference that highlighted problems with Obamacare's stumbling launch."* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

(6,829 posts)At the end, this woman, now with at least the same insurance coverage and a cap on yearly expenses not possible prior to the ACA, simply refuses to accept the FACTS of her situation, as reported by the Detroit Free Press. "That can't possibly be true".
The cognitive dissonance she must be suffering from, once confronted with fact, has to be so substantial it will liquify her brain and it will pour out her ears!
We cannot allow these fucking greedy ass oligarchs to win by money and lies!
My COBRA finally ran out end of last Sept. About $850 a month for me alone. I tried to get a private policy "the old way" from a local broker and applied to Aetna, the same carrier on my COBRA. did the dance and they declined to cover me because I was overweight, took meds for depression (since the late 90's on and off) and had gone to a chiropractor within the last year. (Pre-existing condition = chronic pain.)
Fortunately for me, Connecticut is a progressive well run state and I got ins. last October 1st through a state run Connecticare plan. I don't know if it's comparable to my COBRA line by line, but my primary concern is to prevent medical bankruptcy should I get really sick or in an accident or come down with cancer. I currently pay $357 a month for health insurance now and I don't need a fucking employer to get health insurance ever again! Note my current payment is LESS THAN HALF of my COBRA, which gets cut off after 18 months.
Sorry to be crude, but these Koch's and their peer group are simply outright treacherous heartless greedy sociopathic MOTHERFUCKERS! The entirety of these .01% ANIMALS should be driven forever away from polite society!

Free speech isn't unlimited. Slander and Libel still exist in the US. Paid TV ad campaign, full of lies... nothing can be done?
Why doesn't the network refuse to carry it?

(9,350 posts)The Democratic Party should put out an ad explaining that Julie Boonstra will actually save money under the ACA plan and that she will be able to get her perscriptions with that plan. The ad should also point out that the Koch brothers are spending $30 million on ads that are attempting to mislead voters. The ad could end by calling on the Koch brother to stop attempting to mislead voters. The point of that part would not be to actually get them to stop, but make it known that they are behind the misleading ad and maybe even to leave viewers and voters with Koch brothers as their final image.

(33,982 posts)1. Drains our coffers.
2. Enriches the media outlet carrying the ad.
I'd rather the station/channel either refuse to carry the ad, or, boycott the station till it does refuse.
Responding as you suggest may or may not be effective, but at the end of the day, it forces us to expend resources, and all the while the outlet is enriched. (And you have to fit a convincing argument into a small window to counter an emotional claim without evidence)

(9,350 posts)Since the party spends money during campaigns anyway the party should just go ahead and spend money on ads to inform people about false stories concerning the ACA. Most political candidates pay for campaign ads so the media outlets will make money regardless. The party might as well pay to put out ads about the ACA

I've run into dozens of these aggressive lying bagger women in real life. You might as well try to reach one of Pavlov's dogs with another way to act. It ain't happening, they are stuck on hate.
Not only that, her husband is a big mucky muck with the GOP. She's a cow of Bashan who expects to live high while others are robbed by him and the Koch brothers. 'Never mind,' she says, 'I got mine.'
Still, we have a president who is looking out for her lying ass:
