"The parents of the teen who killed four people while driving drunk has paid undisclosed sums to three of his victims but has still not settled with the fourth victim.
Ethan Couch, the teen whose lawyer argued that he had 'affluenza' after his wealthy parents coddled him into a sense of irresponsibility, is currently in state custody and is expected to receive alcohol and drug rehab.
Youth pastor Brian Jennings and Hollie Boyles had pulled over separately at the side of a Burleson, Texas road on June 15 to help Breanna Mitchell who had a tire blowout."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

Only the rich can afford Affluenza.
Is there something the non-rich can't use as a defense?

(2,178 posts)These rich fucks likely have a zillion coverage for Liability Insurance. It probably won't cost them anything out-of-pocket and the cost to the Insurance Companies will be passed-on to us.

(10,494 posts)parents spoil the shit out of him/her and are always quick to say, "Not my child!" My mother's friend is going through a hell of her own making right now. He has totaled 3 cars, charged on their credit card $25,000 for a pit bull that he had to go get in California. He kept getting caught with drugs and she would believe him when he said it was a friend's, room mate's, planted by the cops... This last time there was no getting around it. He missed court hearings, and even though mom and dad hired an expensive attorney, offered to pay for an $80,000 rehab, the Judge sentenced him to the rehab in the state pen for 8 months (got off easy). He blames it all on mom who has finally decided tough love is the answer. Too bad the dad cannot stop enabling. Kids need to bear the consequences (reasonable) for their actions or they will never have respect.

(1,648 posts)Question is: How can we legally get Ethan Couch to pay for these criminal actions? What consequences can be leveled on this Couch Slouch? Really, let's pool our brains, there's gotta be someone bright enough on DU to come up with a just consequence.
