(10,495 posts)we are not going to do the things they talk about here anytime soon. It will have to get very bad before we will have enough support to make the necessary changes. It may come too late to avoid mass extinctions. The oceans are already on life support. If they become too alkaline to support phytoplankton, which supply most of our oxygen, droughts etc will be the least of our problems. We are playing with fire and do not have a clue about what will happen and how bad it will be. Capitalism will push us too far down the hole to climb out. It will fight making the necessary changes for us to avoid the point of no return, which some scientists are saying we have already crossed. I feel like a Lemming being pushed over the cliff by my fellow Lemmings!

(5,069 posts)you say we are talking about it?
Yes the Matthew Fillopowicz show is covering the crisis, among others....But Amerikuns I would argued have been dumbed down culturally and for generation by mass culture and most recently by MSM which still gives lip service to the global warming deniers....Ranks up with disinformation about evolution in my view. In this same school of thought there has also been a silence on economic theories other than those extolling the virtues of capitalism...
What is happening with this is as the economic-ecologic crises intersect....When the problem becomes finally accepted and at the fatal stage, we will employ those (global elites) who caused the problem to fix it. Geo engineering is already being discussed....
We indeed are passed the slow transition phase...
But I don't see this seriously being discussed to the extent that the gravity of the situation warrants...The fact that the leader of this discussion calls himself Gaius Publicus (a pseudonym at best) speaks to the fact that this is not being discussed in public.

(10,495 posts)thought. This is the main reason why I say the reality is that we are not going to do ANYTHING until it is either almost, or already, too late! The MSM certainly won't air anything that is designed to call people to action or to change the perception of environmentalist as "Tree Huggers."
Is it still cynicism if it's true?
