Here is some background on this: http://www.forwardprogressives.com/cliven-bundy-now-encouraging-lunatic-followers-trample-through-navajo-nation-sites/
Here is commissioner Phil Lyman's facebook page. He is the one who organized this: https://www.facebook.com/Phil.Lyman.SanJuanCountyCommissioner
Update: The facebook page above has been closed down due to too many negative comments.
Tribal groups dismayed by Recapture ATV protest: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/57919721-78/blm-canyon-recapture-ride.html.csp
Snip from ABC News: "A 14-mile section of trail in the canyon is closed to motorized vehicles, BLM officials said, but there are more than 2,800 miles of trails open to them on public lands around Blanding." WAAAAH! We can't go on 14 miles of road yet we could drive from Utah to Europe on the roads open to ATV's around Blanding. The stupidity here is stunning!

The tracks can last for hundreds of years.
I am baffled that 4 wheelers believe they have the right to tear up any land they want to.
These people ARE breaking the law and causing lasting damage.

(18,623 posts)When the media coverage evaporates, so does Bundy's leverage to stall paying his debt. Eventually, he'll be quietly assessed for the money, and he knows it.
Meanwhile, playing Redneck XGames keep the militias entertained and may draw the cameras back. I hope it doesn't.

(25 posts)It's the presence of his herd on federal land. A few years after the BLM canceled Bundy's grazing permit for non-payment, Clark County purchased and retired those grazing rights to protect it for the endangered desert tortoise and Native American historical landmarks and plants.

Even to my detractors, I say thank you for your voice. If I delete your posts it is probably due to harsh rhetoric related to an issue about which you are uninformed or misinformed.

They see a weak government and will take advantage of it.

(1,210 posts)these cretins should be charged to the full extent of the law.
BTW this is a small area they want to destroy with their motorized vehciles - they can walk in there and enjoy the area. But no, they want to ride that area because hell the 2,800 miles of OHV trails in the same county are not enough.

(15,774 posts)Mexico and the Spanish were unable to successfully colonize the Southwest and plains because of the Indian tribes. In fact, it took the US government 50 years to subdue the Indians. Going though these sacred area and tearing them up is going to land them in hot water with some of these tribes. In other words, translated so you can understand........

(15,774 posts)I will forward it to some of my friends. We often speculate about the way things could have easily turned out differently-and many time it was just some luck that prevented those early settlements from annihilation. My ancestors were Cherokee and their range was on the east cost from the now Carolinas to Florida and inland to Georgia, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Hell they even greeted De Soto on his way to the lost Fountain of Youth (even we had enough sense not to mess with the Seminoles-anyone living in a swamp has got to be crazy). By the time the pilgrims landed, it was all up and down the coast about the new comers. And now we reside in a tiny patch of Oklahoma.
Navajo were the first Indians to kick some Spanish ass. I would not go tear assing through their lands. They might hire themselves a good Cherokee lawyer. We have legal experience dealing with this government.
