When I get my voices, they're quiet and barely audible, like someone talking quietly in the next room. I call them my "whispers in the wall". Thankfully, I'm British so I get treatment despite being unable to work and the drugs have narrowed my "visions" and voices down to a few times a month rather than several times a day.
