After the American Revolution, this area became part of the new United States of America.
You might reasonably respond that the British wouldn't want it, but the same issue would arise with the French.
I know, I know, more Southern-bashing, blah blah blah, but I'm just reacting to this bit of extraordinary stupidity from the Governor.

Can you imagine what this country would look like, if all this president wanted to do was accomplished. Racism, isolationism, and just a brand of extremism has basically ruining this country, and it is time to take it back. Vote Democrat 2014

(23,091 posts)What's totally pathetic is that poor folks vote for him. Damn SCOTUS by rejecting the Medicaid expansion, thereby emsuring that really poor folks in the bright red and even some purple states get no help at all.

(45,425 posts)The gap between rich and poor is not the only thing widening. There's a growing gap between blue and red states. Red states really shot themselves in the foot on medicaid expansion and state exchanges/subsidies since they need it the most.
How are they going to explain why life is better in nearby blue states? Obama likes those states better?

(111 posts)Mississippi Republicans Know that poor people don't vote, which is why it is so easy to take advantage of them. If poor Republicans and poor Democrats and independents ever join forces they could really end up with some power, but they will never have any as long as the Republican Party can convince poor Republicans that they have more to fear from Dems than Big Business and Big Landowners.
So, the poor will continue getting Screwed by the Republican Party and no one sees to care, least of all evidently, the poor.

(520 posts)It's a weird kind of self-loathing down here. But it's also wrapped in denial. Many older whites are finding themselves sick, hungry, and poor and the Republicans have done an amazing job of convincing them that it's because the government has taken their money and given it to brown and black people who are lazy leeches.
It's that way in a large part of the South. Why do they hate Obamacare so much? Because it's for losers, and buh got, they wouldn't be losers if Obama hadn't spent all their money on welfare.
And next, Obama and the gubment will be coming for their ___________!
Fill in the blank with whatever you want. That's how the Republicans control the South despite it being so poor.

(2,157 posts)I honestly cannot understand this train of thought because its illogical and ill concieved. I live on the Ohio/Indiana state line & Indiana's newly elected Governor Mike Pence has refused to expand Medicaid to Hoosiers across the state of Indiana even though study after study shows it would not cost the state of Indiana 1 cent for a number of years. On the Ohio side of the border you have Governor John Kasich the more conservative of the two Governors'. Yet in the state of Ohio Governor John Kasich DID ALLOW THE EXPANSION OF MEDICAID... Yet Governor Kasich is up for re-election this November in a pretty close race against Democratic Nominee Ed Fitzgerald, who is a former FBI Officer, who is not rich, in fact, its common knowledge to the people of Ohio that Ed Fitzgerald's Wife currently works two jobs.
So in that sense I believe Kasich expanded Medicaid because Ohio Voters would most likely flock to Ed Fitzgerald in the November election for a couple reasons including the still lagging economy in Ohio has not shown a rebound under the Kasich Administration, which means millions of Ohioans rely heavily on the expanded Medicaid and would hold that against Kasich in the November election...

The same thing happened here in Idaho, the governor refused to expand Medicaid, and then blamed President Obama for signing the ACA bill into law.
It's a form of insanity that only stupid people will believe, but hey, most of them voted for Romney, McCain, and Bush as well.

(45,251 posts)Obamacare provided that the feds could cut all Medicaid funding to states that refused to cooperate. I don't know if even Republican politicians would have risked that. However, the five Republican-nominated Justices, joined by Democratic nominees Kagan and Breyer, somehow found that particular power of Congress to rule the federal purse unconstitutional.
I guess I should try harder to sympathize with finding that particular limit on the spending power in Article I, which places no limits on it, but I think it's pure political bullshit.
