Because the police and justice system are riddled with corruption, there's a feeling that if something happens to you on the street, you have no place to turn.
I was especially worried about two gay friends who came to visit me in Moscow. The city has a history of harassment against openly gay men. And the same goes for blacks.
Even though for decades the Soviet Union recruited African students to come to universities and learn about communism, there are very few black faces in Russia today.
Skinheads are active in the capital and elsewhere, and blacks have been harassed on the street and beaten on trains and the subway.

(3,714 posts)They're just using Ferguson as another reason to sow fear about "uppity" minorities.
Other than that, US media has no use for Ferguson and the riots.

(3,982 posts)The OP likes to post older material and sometimes misrepresents what he has posted. The description from the video post itself. Note this is from May 2012. It is not recent news.

It is May the 6th 2012, the day before Putin's third term as Russian president begins. A 'march of the millions' has been planned which actually turned out to be only some tens of thousands strong, but still bigger than many expected. When a point of tension developed around a sit in started by Russian activist and blogger Alexei Navalny and Left wing opposition figure Sergei Udaltsov, some protesters broke through police lines after a scuffle started. The response was baton charges, tear gas and mass arrests. Younger protesters did provoke police by throwing stones but police themselves faced many accusations of beating protesters and use of excessive force.

(761 posts)Why all the negative posts concerning Russia and Putin I wonder? Especially here at DU, which on this subject reminds me more of Fox. Could it be because Russia supports two of Israel's arch enemies, Iran and Syria? Just asking......
