When I was looking for an affordable guitar, I tried some of the high-end Epiphones, made in Indonesia. They felt less like an instrument, and more like a collection of parts.
Ultimately, I got an American Gibson Les Paul Studio model (which is what I really wanted) for cheap when they were phased out for the (ugly) Gibson LPJ.
