Chris Mathews MSNBC tonight

The subject of Ted Nugent came up. One of the guests had to explain to Chris who he was. How on earth could Chris not know who Ted Nugent was? He is a big part of rock history and he's as ubiquitous as Sarah Palin is over on the Fox so called news side of the fence.

I just thought it was weird Chris had to get this explained to him.

Makes me wonder what other stuff is common knowledge to all of us except Chris? Just really puzzling.

but I think he asked the question so that his guest could tell the audience who Ted Nugent was (perhaps thinking that the very elderly or anybody under the age of fifty might not no Poopy Pants). At least I hope that Mathews had some clue.

The question was a set up to talk about Ted - they had pictures of Mr. Poopy-pants (In Lieutenant Frank Drebin voice) as the guest described him.

So it was really a slobbering shtick set up to discuss Ted.

Thanks for the explanation. TexasTowelie, I get it now.

Ted released an album or two on Frank Zappa's early 70's Discreet label, and had nothing but nice things to say about Frank. And Ted is a music marker in my life, I love his guitar solo in Journey to the Center of the Mind, but who he is, is repugnant.

who is not terribly well connected to a lot of current popular culture, I do appreciate such explanations. There are so many times here on DU when someone gets named and I haven't a clue who that person is. It can be very frustrating.

Lots of people dont know who he was/is. Which might be one reason why he has such enduring popularity with every generation.
