Republican history . . . there's so much wrong with it, where do you start? First, let's forget about the French helping us, because, you know, "freedom fries." Also forget that most of our revolutionary military leaders were trained by the British, veterans of the French and Indian War. Forget that the British had an ocean to cross in order to fight in a huge wilderness. Forget that one of those core beliefs our founding fathers fought for was freedom of religion, not to create a Holy Christian Empire. Forget that in the ISIS analogy, WE would be the British.

Also saying, "Obamacare is worse than slavery" would earn 20 stupidity points, but saying, "Obamacare is the worst thing since slavery" still scores you 19 stupidity points. So, you're only 5% less stupid.

Putting Obamacare in the same sentence as slavery, whatever the context, is more than a non sequitor. Is there a word for that? Oh, yeah. It's idiotic. It's like saying that chocolate chip cookies are the best thing since ponies. They're not on the same spectrum.

Granted, you can criticize the Affordable Care Act. Fair enough. First off, call it what it is. Next, have at it and criticize, but don't be an idiot about.

Even a worst case scenario where Obamacare isn't working out as well as planned, I could start making a public policy list including internment of Japanese citizens and "enhanced interrogation" that are worse policies than passing a public health care law, but I think I'm safe in assuming that everyone except the highly touted GOP smart guy already knows this.

It's hard to believe this guy is the head of the Republican Party Mensa Club.

about ISIS ...

What is dr. ben trying to say? What belief and/or values are we giving away and how does that relate to the ISIS fighters dying for what they believe in?

Is he saying, Americans should be willing to die for what we don't believe in? Because, based on his comment, we are, clearly, killing ISIS fighters.

What needs to change?

I the words of Gen. George S. Patton:

War is not meant to be you dying for your country (beliefs/values) -it is about making the other bastard die for his.

Deep in their hearts, they believe that African Americans are so stupid they'll vote for Ben Carson just because he's black. And with the black vote in their pockets, they'll win the election. That's what THEY think, not what I think.

Just wait . . . .

They're always talking about how they lose presidential elections because the nominee's aren't conservative enough. Here you go! A guy who truly represents conservative values. (And, as repulsive as his politics are, he's kind of hot.)

"we believed in what we were doing or because we were willing to die for it..."

but because:

1. The Brits didn't care enough to send sufficient forces.
2. The French helped us out big time.
3. The Brits didn't care to spend more than a few years fighting us.
4. The Brits had other, more immediate, and closer concerns occupying some of their energies (although this mostly helps to explain 1 and 3).

If the Brits really wanted to keep us in the fold, they could have, for at least some period of time. But the expense, cost, and distances involved combined with the worth of the colonies weren't enough for more than a short, half-hearted attempt (and I include the War of 1812 in this).

Ironically, the reason why ISIS will fail is that the greater powers they are facing, relatively speaking, can afford the expense and cost involved, and the distances don't remotely matter nearly as much.
