In Our Backyard - The Monsanto Corporation

Uploaded on Oct 26, 2011

The company that made "agent orange" and "nutrisweet." Monsanto is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. Started by selling saccharin to Coca-Cola, it is now the world's leading producer of the herbicide glyphosate, marketed as "Roundup". Monsanto is also the leading producer of genetically engineered (GE) seed; it provides the technology in 90% of the genetically engineered seeds used in the US market. It is headquartered in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

Agracetus, owned by Monsanto, exclusively produces Roundup Ready soybean seed for the commercial market. In 2005, it finalized the purchase of Seminis Inc, making it the world's largest conventional seed company.

Monsanto's development and marketing of genetically engineered seed and bovine growth hormone, as well as its aggressive litigation, political lobbying practices, seed commercialization practices and "strong-arming" of the seed industry have made the company controversial around the world and a primary target of the alter-globalization movement and environmental activists. As a result of its business strategies and licensing agreements, Monsanto came under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department in 2009.

...at about the 27:30 mark begins the long list of revolving door Company Executive Officer/Appointed Government Officials list. It is daunting.

- And it demonstrates quite clearly that we've only been pretending to act like a democracy on teevee. For the ratings.......

our elected officials. The more they are exposed, the more chance there is of one day, breaking that power.

What is stunning to me is to see THIS forum, suddenly become a 'rah-rah' site for GMOs and corporations like Monsanto. Am I dreaming, or was the far right the place for promoting these Corporate bullies, and their GMOs. Sometimes I think I stumbled back into the original forum I used to post on way back in 2002 or so, arguing with Right Wingers over GMOs. Never expected to have the same arguments on a Democratic forum.

- The length, depth and breadth of the corruption we now live with daily permeates everything. Everything. Even DU.

Monsatan, et. al. are fighting for their way of life and control but it can't stand. Farmers are ditching their GMO seeds, left and right and countries are waking-up now that 27 of them have banned them for BGH-milk and 26 countries have banned them from selling that GMO poison within their borders.

So they have a FULL-COURT-PRESS going-on right now. All hands on deck......

against their control. I wondered if this is the reason we are seeing so much 'pro' GMO garbage lately. There IS an air of desperation about it all.

For a long time they had virtually a free rein over the world. But people are getting more and more informed, so things are speeding up against them.

I never got too into GMOs here, thinking it was not even an issue, people here were aware of the threat these Corporations are. But lately I noticed a whole lot of 'pro' GMO posts, cheerleading posts. It got my attention so I wrote my own OP, to let them know at least some of us are not buying their BS.

Just what Monsatan is wanted to change, and press for these changes. GMOs flood my mind, as the pernicious effects of these genetic freaks are many but still not fully understood. First of all, Monsatan lies about feeding the world with these "new" seeds...they don't, and by using these seeds the farmer is then locked into continuing the use of GMO seeds. They also lie frequently when they bolster "rallies" against citizen initiated bills requiring labeling of the food containing GMO products...including pressing fear of voters not voting against the labeling bills. By using GMOs, they can sell greatly increased "RoundUp", as the seeds aren't bothered by poison, just those who eat these crops are bothered. For example, farm animals who are given a choice between GMO and non-GMO crops always eat those crops that are non-GMO...we could learn from these animals. So, if you are bothered by this film about Monsatan, check out an organization that is pursuing labeling of GMOs...but don't wait, please do it now. Every day counts.

7. Monsatan is losing it's grip.

That is the reason for the desperation right now.

As mentioned above, Monsatan, et. al. are all fighting for their lives but it won't stand up under the pressure that's coming (Monsanto Reports Major Fourth-Quarter Losses).

These losses are primarily due to the fact of the terrible publicity they're now getting and because the farmers themselves are ditching GMO seeds -- left and right.

Mexico (our supposed next door vassal-state) recently kick Monsanto out of their country for killing bees. Hell, even Maui County in Hawaii have kicked them out and that's one their own states.

There are now 27 countries that have banned them for Monsanto patented BGH-milk and another 26 countries have banned them from selling that GMO poison within their borders.

- And even after all that, they'll never be held accountable under this governmental system. They've already been absolved by Obama and friends:
