Those who really suffered in the South, during the Civil War were the thousands of sad suckers who fought for a cause that gained them nothing. How tragic that rich plantations were burned, but was the land confiscated? No. Were Rebel leaders executed? No. Lincoln was amazingly indulgent to treasonous Southerners ,but sadly was assassinated and caused worse reactions to come in "Reconstruction." Ordinary people, not the aristocrats, suffered most from the reaction to the Lincoln assassination. The Confederate flag shows pride to a very elite group of people who've managed to sell it as a point of pride to every southerner who just needs to be kept in oblivious line.

The slaughter of innocent people in Charleston under the aegis of the goddamned traitor-flag pretty finally underscored the fact that soon many of our Southern caucasian brothers and sisters have been dancing around for 150+ years: the flag always represented treason and racism and hatred and bigotry. Even the people who cherished it because of their so-called heritage, cherished a heritage of hatred and bigotry, of a movement by white people to destroy the United States.

The "grand old lost cause" stood for slavery and treason, plain and simple.
