TYT: Police Refuse To Do Their Job Because You’re Watching Them

The FBI is accusing citizens filming police officers of the recent rise in violent crime. They say that officers are less likely to do their jobs because they are afraid of ending up on YouTube. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

Do you think cops should do their jobs despite being filmed? Does this story make you feel more sympathetic toward police officers? Let us know in the comments below.

“What could possibly be behind the surge in violent crime in the US? Quite surprisingly, according to FBI Director James Comey, the answer is – citizens filming viral YouTube videos of police brutality.

“I’ve been told by a senior police leader who urged his force to remember that their political leadership has no tolerance for a viral video,” Comey said as he was talking to law students, faculty, staff and some police officers at the University of Chicago Law School, according to the New York Times.

He went on to say that such statements have sent a chill through police departments, making cops feel “under siege.”

“In today’s YouTube world, there are officers reluctant to get out of their cars and do the work that controls violent crime,” he said. “Our officers are answering 911 calls, but avoiding the informal contact that keeps bad guys from standing around, especially with guns,” Comey said, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.”

Of course, those crimes were never reported in crime statistics so we really can't be sure if crime is increasing or not. I'd rather take my chances with the civilian criminals than run across one of the officers that thinks they are above the law.

a law against taking video of police, which would then give them carte blanche to stay the same. Instead, ALL police officers should be wearing body cams.

illegal wire taps, infiltrating peace groups and street cams. We just can't watch the cops, lest we catch them in a crime. Also, it seems that a lot of businesses are watching there employees now days, and not to catch them stealing, but to ensure productivity. Seems like everywhere i go anymore, i'm being watched by someone.
