(1,268 posts)I want to get under their skin more each passing week and make them sweat. I'm specifically pointing my finger at DWS. She is a lost cause. Sometimes I wish we had a better way to get some of 3rd way people to resign or get out of our way.
Oops. I wrote DWS. Now my blood pressure is going up.

(50,983 posts)This group should be completely cut off from the Democratic Party. The banks have quite enough representation without co-opting our party.

(44 posts)I don't think "Something a little fishy" really captures what's going on. Thom is being far too polite. Business interests and Banking magnates have infiltrated every aspect of the Democratic party. Hillary is a shill.

(17,881 posts)that's who really runs this country. Third Ways are simply their Democratic Party wing. Jimmy Carter is correct. We do live in what for all practical purposes is an Oligarchy. Hillary, I hate to say it, is the new, heir apparent, Oligarchal Caesar. But at least we'll get a few crumbs. Better that then full on, fascist Republicans. I weep for my country as I hold my nose in the voting booth.

They do have at least one thing right though.. A Bernard presidency will be a step backwards unless he learns to compromise (disappointing his devoted), or those of you who adore him so much get on the ball and actually start working on getting a congress that will make him worth a damn.

(17,505 posts)They have...clearly.
"unless he learns to compromise "
What makes you think he can't? He's won more elections than Hillary. Is this that Third Way meme that Sander's can't work with anyone?
What he's hasn't learned to do, that other candidates have learned to do well, is triangulate.

(4,558 posts)Most of your fellowship who frequents this board and is in his camp who tout him as the steadfast, never changing, never compromising, always the same on the issues. Have you not read the forum you post in so frequently?
So, do tell.. which is it.. Is he completely dedicated to his causes that he will not falter, that he will not compromise, that he will not give in? Or is he a candidate that can take the presidency forward, who will understand the congress that the citizens give him to work with, and will he set his priorities.. advance those priorities while giving in to the establishment to give them enough to keep this country moving forward? If he actually is the later, he's actually worth reconsidering. If he is the former, I stand by my earlier commentary.

Sounds like he's had a long productive career in politics. That typically doesn't happen unless you're getting stuff done.
There's always compromise in politics... Or at least there should be. One of those facts of life. Wouldn't want to end up being a party of purity. A party of demagogues like the Republicans have become.
I believe Sanders plan (realistic or not) is to get elected, pass the bills he can pass, and keep the electorate engaged. If he CAN somehow manage to keep these enthusiastic millennials politically active for 2-4 years there's a good chance we'll be seeing some potentially amazing changes in the future that would bring us on par with a lot of other counties.

(449 posts)In 2013 Congress passed the 'Fiscal Cliff Compromise' bill. Bernie Sanders voted in favor of it despite the fact that it made permanent the Bush-era Tax cuts he spent over eight hours filibustering in 2010. In voting for it despite his disdain for Bush-era tax cuts he compromised even if the alternative was untenable. However, it's not like he couldn't have voted against it. The Senate gave plenty of wiggle-room for protest votes with an 89-8 Yea/Nay split. In the end, he made the vote he had to. He didn't cut off his nose to spite his face.

(449 posts)There are more examples. It seems clear no matter what gets posted you're just going to resort to demeaning him so I won't bother anymore.
Ohhhh, okay. Shame on me, but here you go.
In 2014 Sanders had worked on a bill which would have expanded rights to Veterans. This was rejected on the grounds that it was 'too expensive.' Later, Sanders and McCain worked a bill to help veterans. Both sides didn't agree on all points, but in order to pass something to benefit veterans compromised. McCain recently acknowledged Sanders' work on this bipartisanship effort. (Source)
I have a feeling this bar you've set is a moving target though and nothing will satisfy you. If we've all dug in our heels will facts become irrelevant?

The point he makes in that video about people 'passively accepting' all the bullshit that goes down in politics and in life is the stuff that resonates with me. So many people (outside of DU) aren't engaged in politics. They don't care. They won't develop an informed opinion because they're basing their opinions on only a sliver of information. That's always been dangerous, but especially nowadays with the rise of opinion-journalism... And if the viewer doesn't like what someone is saying, they always have the option of turning it to another news channel.
And that's where the Internet comes into play. The Internet is full of information. It'd take some time to parse through the bullshit on the internet compared to the facts, but no country was ever worse off for the dissemination of truthful information. If we can get people to stop shouting and pay attention to facts good things will come of it.
Facts are king when people are receptive.

(4,012 posts)The DLC and the Third Way are GOP aligned front groups that have infiltrated and hijacked the leadership of the Democratic Party so as to more closely align the the GOP and the Democratic Party. The take over is now complete and Hillary Clinton is their candidate.
