There was perhaps an even more objectionable part of that town hall last night from Anderson Cooper, who was doing his best to achieve what he thought was objectivity. He asked President Obama if its fair to call the Obama gun grab conspiracy theory a conspiracy theory. John Iadarola (ThinkTank), Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show Podcast), and Jayar Jackson, hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Even CNNs Anderson Cooper appeared to be a little surprised when he asked President Barack Obama whether it was really a conspiracy theory to suggest that he was out to force gun owners into giving up their firearms.
A lot of people really believe this deeply. They just dont trust you, Cooper said.
Im sorry, Cooper. Yes, it is fair to call it a conspiracy, Obama replied. What are you saying? Are you suggesting the notion that we are creating a plot to take everybodys guns away so that we can impose martial law is a conspiracy? Yes, that is a conspiracy. I would hope that you would agree with that. Is that controversial, except on some websites around the country?
The discussion was touched off by a sarcastic question from former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and her husband Mark on how the government could confiscate the 350 million guns under ownership in the US. Mark Giffords said that both gun lobbyists and lawmakers have insisted to them that expanding background checks on gun purchases was the first step toward a totalitarian government.*

(45,251 posts)1. Who is President Obama supposed to have conspired with?
By definition, a conspiracy requires more than one party.

Copied and pasted from m-w.com: "conspiracy: a secret plan made by two or more people to do something that is harmful or illegal"
By asking if Obama is sure it's a conspiracy, Coop seems to imply that the plot to take guns away might not be imaginary -- that it's a conspiracy theory only if it's not true. But according to the dictionary, it's just as much a conspiracy theory if it's true.
Coop needs to consult a dictionary.
