(8,554 posts)This one, I Can't Give Everything Away struck me...his vevo channel there has published what I think is practically every track to the album that was just released on his birthday, last Friday. He's given it away.

(34,582 posts)The problem I have with digital music is, regardless the CODEC used, too much is lost. I was a teen in the album to CD period. I still prefer vinyl, but CD is much better than what we have now.

CDs were still far in the future when I was busy collecting records, so my album hoard way outnumbers the CDs we've got. To me, it was a sad day when they stopped putting music on vinyl. My daughter still surprises us with real albums, whenever some old artist decides to do a limited release of something new they've done...that's very special to me.
Bowie's final release has some really nice sax on it and tho there aren't that many tracks, the new songs on it make the "Blackstar" worth it. It's a beautiful piece of work, just like David Bowie was.

(8,554 posts)that's the influence he stamped on our culture.
I think my favorite thing he ever did was that '77 duet with Bing Crosby...his wonderful singing voice, his ability to harmonize, will forever be a thing of beauty to me.

David Bowie's final record was a carefully-orchestrated farewell to his fans, his producer has confirmed.
Lazarus, released on the Bowie's 69th birthday just two days before his death, opens with the lyrics: "Look up here, I'm in Heaven!"
Its video, which will be viewed in a very different light by millions of fans today, features the musician in a hospital bed, and finishes with him retreating in to a dark closet.
Tony Visconti, the producer who worked with Bowie to complete his final album, has released a statement saying it was deliberately created and timed as a "parting gift" for his fans.
