(28,929 posts)He is about as big a Bozo as they come! He is someone I would not mind seeing getting flattened by one good blow to the head and I rarely want to see violence come to anyone. I have seen just a couple of his videos, one of which he says the people of Burns are too afraid to do anything and how they need to man up. Some of the locals posted responses to the video and told him to fuck off and he used all kinds of intimidation, Nazi type tactics to respond back to them. He simply needs to get the fuck out of their town and let them get back to their regular lives.

(45,984 posts)I guess this is related to the "evidence" that the whackos in the Montana Militia, kindred spirits of the Bundy Boys, spoke of many years ago. We never found out what that was, either. It seemed to have something to do with white males not having to pay taxes because slavery was abolished. Could somebody explain that steer manure to me?

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards and other needful Buildings; . . . .

Note that the Bill of Rights was adopted to amend the Constitution after the ratification of the Constitution.
The Bill of Rights, Fifth Amendment states:
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

I don't know exactly what these bozos think the Constitution says, but clearly the government, various levels of government, can "take" any property it wants provided just compensation (amount usually decided by a court) is paid for it.
I'm not sure how all this is relevant to what is going on in HArney County.
My question is that right now the federal government is paying to keep the Malheur bird sanctuary. These bozos seem to think that Harney County should own that land. Am I right about that????
If I'm right, wouldn't a transfer of that property from the federal government to Harney County mean that Harney County would have to pay for the upkeep of the property? Wouldn't that impose a higher tax burden on Harney County or if the property went to the State of Oregon, to Oregon taxpayers?
Why would the citizens of Harney County want to increase their tax burden when the federal government is taking care of the property and they can presumably enjoy it when they wish?
I don't understand this. Maybe I am just misinformed, but I don't see the point in this exercise.
As for First Amendment rights, they are somewhat limited in certain situations. I can't go to a meeting of the City Council in my city and just speak up whenever I feel like it. There is an order in the meeting. In Los Angeles the order is quite strict and the comment period carefully organized.
I do not understand what these people think they are doing. They really don't seem very civilized.

(4,205 posts)You are correct, the government owns and takes care of the place. In this case it is probably a good deal... what most people who complain about the amount of lnd owned by the feds is that they don't pay property taxes on it so the state doen't gain anything at all really as there is not a lot of upkeep on most of it.

(45,984 posts)That's a part of the Constitution I've forgotten, since most of it is just what might be called start up clauses. Certainly there is no way that what is listed in that clause is going to confined to ten square miles and even someone with as little grey matter as Santilli or Cliven Bundy should realize that.

(13,860 posts)There are reports of "law enforcement officers and community members being followed home; of people sitting in cars outside their homes , observing their and their family members' movements; and of people following them and their families as they move around the community"-Eugene Register Guard.
Something very strange is being allowed to take place in Harney Country right now. I don't recall anything like this taking place before. This isn't your usual government protest. Armed men dressed in camo are being allowed to roam the streets of a small eastern Oregon community intimidating locals and engaging them in debates and arguments about the government. Sheriff Ward has gone so far as to suggest citizens "take alternating routes when coming and going from their homes" for safety purposes.
What's up?
I hope that the assorted law enforcement groups, including the Feds, are simply allowing them to gather enough rope for a future hanging. Of course, I thought that about the Bundy nonsense, too, and was proven wrong.....
