President Franklin D. Roosevelt framed it in 1942, at a time when Fascism was fresh in the mind of every American:

“…democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism—ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power.”

Unions exist because corporations exist.

They attack the pillars that support a liberal society in order to destroy it.

That's why they constantly attack unions, science, education, intellectuals, and the media.

We might take a lesson from the RW-ers in that regard as it seems to be a pretty effective tactic.

Every time a Tea Bagger uses the term "special interest", I would love to hear a mic check that quickly explains who that special interest actually is. It would sound something like this:

Walker: I kicked out the special interest that had a stranglehold on our state.
Mic Check: Special interests equal teachers and state employee unions.
Barret: Walker is beholden to special interests, and he will not veto Right to Work legislation.
Mic Check: Special interests equal large corporations, Koch brothers, millionaires and billionaires.
