(6,699 posts)I've seen the program before, and I was upset then. It focused in part on the poor, uninsured in rural Virginia where a 50ish year old woman who worked for McDonalds for $7+ an hour, uninsured had been suffering from severe leg pain, caused by clotting in her leg; but she was too poor to afford the $115 office visit to get it diagnosed and taken care of. Later she discovers she has stage four lung and brain cancer; but again, was unable to get it diagnosed and treated because she is part of the vast "working poor" in this fucked up country. She died 3 months later.
She was one of thousands who relied on this "feel good story" of two nurses who roam the back hills of Appalachia in their dilapidated mobile home to treat thousands of patients who are simply too fucking poor to afford "Obamacare", so they are going UNtreated and without the necessary prescriptions they desperately need for their high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. things this country should be providing to every citizen. THOUSANDS of people.
And they make it out to be a "feel good story" about the devotion of these two overworked, volunteers who are trying to save lives. Meanwhile, the reich wingers and selfish "conservatives" are bitching and moaning about "give aways, moochers, unnecessary regulations, etc" while we let our brothers and sister needlessly suffer and die from neglect.
I couldn't stand it any longer. The focus was on churches doing a part in feeding the hungry, and we're supposed to feel good. The generosity of the uber-wealthy donating a pittance from their hoards of gold. We're supposed to feel gratitude.
This country is so fucked up backwards. It pisses me off when I hear the nay-sayers scream about Senator Sanders striving for the unobtainable. You've got that ass backwards. It is obtainable, but it's going to take a real shake up and attention drawn to the lack of medical attention and slave wages we expose our fellow citizens to.
I'm damn glad I live in relative comfort. I spend every dime I make every month, but thanks to my half-teachers' pension and my Social Security pension I can eat and have a roof over my head. My modest savings make up the difference I fall short every month. The VA takes care of my medical expenses. But millions aren't so fortunate!
Rest assured HRC may make some effort to make things a little better, but Bernie is calling attention to the real travesty that lives in our communities all around us today, and he is the only one shedding light to our ugly, sad story. God help us all if the clowns were to get in the White House. This country would be totally fucked to death if that were ever to happen!
Yes, it won't be easy to turn things around, but this country needs to wake up and vote this Congress OUT! Ninety-five percent of the congressmen and women are worthless corporate or selfish whores. We all know the few that are truly representing "we the people". The rest can go to hell! And fuck those pensions congressmen get when we finally do get rid of their worthless asses.
Sixty-Minutes didn't make me feel good at all. It made me angry and ashamed of my country...again. We don't want hand-outs, we want fairness and protection for our citizens!
