Related: About this forumThe complete interview with Bernie Sanders about Nicaragua
This is the interview the snippet was taken from about Castro.
Much of the interview is about how Reagan was supporting conflict in Latin America and that Bernie was against that. That's consistent with Bernie's stance about regime change and war.
Something that has changed is that people now can access the full segments instead of just seeing the snippets. Thank the Internet for that access.
Well worth watching the whole segment. The points he makes toward the end could be about the quagmire in the Middle East we have now.

(13,297 posts)so it was entirely disingenuous of the Univision hosts to give their audience the idea that he was somehow against Latinos or their people's needs -- apparently Latino-operated corporations and their well-paid hosts are no better than American owned conglomerates.
Just confirms that this political system needs to be fixed, and in a big way, by real grassroots

(12,232 posts)And the full interview shows that he went out of his way to learn from Latinos what their views were and build bridges, even at a time when it went against the Reagan domination of media and at some possible cost to Sanders politically.
It is breathtakingly honest and compassionate and consistent with how he was then and who he is now.

It's much harder to pull off when info about context is more readily available than it was on the past.
And the context is very important.

(1,539 posts)This is very similar to the Rev Wright video clip of Obama's camppaign. Small and out of context clip to entirely misinform everyone.
Bernie clearly is agreeing with Congress. They did not believe it was in US interest to fund the Contras. Which was illegally done in the Reagan Administration in the Iran-Contra affair.

(13,297 posts)she seemed to have read an attack from her notes right after the clip -- not something she just pulled out of the air -- Ramos' daughter works for the campaign so she'd know just the right people to send things to, and have Hillary prep'd for counter-attacks if they took the bait.

(5,902 posts)While largely unknown in the U.S. (or worse, often misunderstood as a simple matter of "creditors seeking repayment" , the scourge of vulture funds is well known to Latin Americans and Latin immigrants in the U.S. and their descendants.

Now that they have the needed court precedents by way of Judge Greasa's outrageous (and probably bought-off) rulings that award vulture funds payouts of up to 6,000% for defaulted bonds, I suspect we'll be seeing them pull the same scam here in the U.S. (they're already trying to in Puerto Rico).

Seems like there would be big money in it for a company that could figure it out and they seem to already have something really close, that is accurately checking millions of entries in a single night towards a jackpot

(5,902 posts)Although between you and me, I still suspect he's doing this to sabotage the GOP.
He already deep-sixed Jeb (!) - and for that we should be grateful, because if the Bushes ever got their dirty paws back on the White House, I'm convinced it would be the end of American democracy as we know it.
My understanding is that Trump knows many, many secrets about these people, and moreover that he, personally, isn't the Archie Bunker he presents himself as to the Republican base. He knows what's he's doing.
