for a judge to issue an arrest warrant.

It seems here that the Sheriff is above the law.

needs to shut the fuck up. We don't need more low brow Rambo wannabees pretending to be law enforcement. He can go back to his doughnut house and finish his fucking coffee like a good lap dog and keep his ignorant shit hole shut.

guy doesn't have any jurisdiction in California .

He says he's going to "get a court order from Apple" ????? ????? And if they refuse, he'll arrest them.

Now, I don't know if the situation has changed, but I understood that Apple has not yet created a back door into the security system on their cell phones. It's kind of hard to hand over something that doesn't exist.

If Apple is forced to provide this kind of access to the feds where does it stop?

Beyond the U.S. the genie may already be out of the bottle. Any country that wants to peek at the private communications of its citizens will also demand such access.

After all every nation owes their citizens protection from "terror", right? If that great shining example of rights, the USA, thinks it's okay then it is okay for everybody else right? (Hopefully no sarcasm thingy necessary.)

Russia and China are probably both fairly large markets, and have both been victims of terror attacks, many regimes around the world have been, depending on the definition of "terrorist" used by that government. Anyone trying to change the government's relationship with big business and it's people, the social order, like those seeking economic equality, union organizers, environmental activists and advocates for basic human services, will all be label as "terrorists".

So, Apple will be given a choice, the same level of access as they provide the US, or find another market. Apple won't face that choice here, yet, but other countries will go there gleefully.

We aren't just talking about the rights of just US citizens. Our country should be positioning itself to protect all of our companies from economic blackmail being used to force them to violate the rights of people, wherever they are in the world. Basic human rights should have no borders, not even our own.
