3. Oldest rock band still playing? I think that would be the Stones.

this summer. I should go back and check. I saw them maybe 3 times? Back in the day, can't remember. I do remember Ian getting angry and leaving the stage during one performance when the morons in the balcony thought it funny to throw lit firecrackers down on the rest of us. He came back once they stopped and played. I was just listening to Songs From the Wood the other day. Incredible band.

Must get tickets.

I dimly recalled that I was at my first Jethro Tull Show when Ian Anderson said something about his forthcoming Thick As A Brick album. Ok so thanks to the wonders of the intertububes and the graciousness of an audience member with a taperecording, I can relisten to that very show! From Berlin Germany, Jan, 1972, (starts about 18 min. mark)

14. Jethro Tull saved my life!

Well... my romantic life. Starting in fourth grade and all thru the rest, I was the only boy in school playing flute. For so many years it was not cool to be me. Then suddenly with Ian Anderson prancing around in his boots and bathrobe, the other kids (and girls!) began to see the flute as a cool, rocking instrument!

Thanks Ian, and Tull for helping me morph from flute section band nerd... to a rock prince...at least thru high school!

(But luckily, not many years later, I discovered the world of irish flute, and band like the Chieftains, Bothy Band, Boys of the Lough...)

thanks, hobbit709, for sparking the memories!
