They jack up the prices (around $8K/month) supposedly because they are "orphan drugs" and a low population of users. Orphan drugs are mandated by the Feds to be made - Jack Klugman was actually instrumental in establishing these laws.

So a drug that should cost, let's say, $3K/month becomes $8K and a 20% copay goes from $2,400 for the private insurer/Medicare to $6,400. For Med D - I can't get into the nuisances of the donut hole but the end 5% ends up being about $350 which means the other roughly $7,650 gets paid to Big Pharma out of the private insurer and the Feds share.

If in the next century we find a habitable world nearby around another star, and have the tech to send a ship there with a crew, the most logical solution is to crew it with nothing but women. Every ounce of material and square inch of volume in a spaceship is critical, and female astronauts can perform the same duties as men. The only real reason to send men at all on a long-distance colonization mission is to provide sperm for maintaining the human species once the colony is established, and that can be stored in cryogenic suspension for less than the weight and energy consumption of one man. Once the female crew gets the colony up and running, they start getting pregnant and having little baby boys and girls to re-establish a two-gendered society.

Of course, if we also figure out how to make artificial wombs and AI that can rear a child from birth to adulthood, we can just send a robot probe with replicative abilities and a few thousand fertilized embryos instead.

Trump is like teflon right now. For a whole lot of reasons. He could shoot someone and his supporters would not waiver, as he has said.

There are so many issues that Republicans, in general, are so off the mark on. The Dems make that same mistake time after time. They only focus on the nominee of the other party instead of all the crap that ALL of the Republicans shove down our collective throats every day.

I hope they run ads detailing exactly the kinds of policies and lack of policies the Republican party stands for, because all those idiots, when voting for their teflon reality king, will also be voting in that party.
