Papantonio: The Fracking Industry’s Dirty Secrets

Last edited Tue Jul 3, 2012, 11:38 AM - Edit history (1)

The fracking industry is one of the most secretive and deceptive industries in the country. They’ve managed to operate with little to no oversight from the federal government, and they’ve kept their secret fracking formulas from being revealed to the public, even though the chemicals they’re using are leaching into groundwater supplies and poisoning men, women, and children. Mike Papantonio talks about how the fracking industry is accomplishing all of this with Mike Ludwig, a reporter for TruthOut.org.

Maiden Rock WI, frac sand is going for ~$200/ton, there is thousands of acres here in which private equity firms have bought up mineral companies that in turn are mining for this sand under the regulations put upon gravel pits. Water use (1.5 mil/gal/day) and silica dust and blasting and 60,000 # trucks tearing up the roads are of no consequence apparently.
Tonights meeting is dealing with the rezoning of the village itself. Village board would like to rezone the village and all the land under it to be used for blasting and mining the sand, eschewing open meeting laws along the way.
its a mess.
