I'll Take My Chances Against A Terrorist Armed With A Pickup Truck Anyday, Asshole...

And, by the way....the last time a terrorist killed people with a truck, it was a right-wing crackpot named McVeigh who blew up a government building with a truck full of nitrogen fertilizer...AND...the government responded with SENSIBLE LEGISLATION CONTROLLING THE SALE OF NITROGEN FERTILIZER.

All day long the cable shows have been blathering about "Did the FBI drop the ball?" That's like asking if the Captain of the Titanic dropped the ball by not making sure that all the sink faucets in the bathrooms were closed to prevent additional flooding, while completely ignoring the fact that he steered the ship right into an iceberg.

Well....somebody DID drop the ball, but it wasn't the FBI, it was Congressional Republicans who blocked a bill that would have prevented this psychopath from buying guns.

Every time there's a mass shooting, the right-wing echo chamber blathers that none of the gun safety laws on the books would have prevented the shooting, or even any of the proposed laws. Well...THIS TIME YOU'RE WRONG. The bill that the Republicans blocked, under orders from the NRA WOULD HAVE PREVENTED EXACTLY THIS INCIDENT. And if you're wondering why Trump is making so much noise today, it's to distract from that.

(Watch notorious crackpot Sebastian Gorka try to rationalize how, if terrorists were actually prevented from buying guns LEGALLY, they'd still kill people with trucks. So, no point in trying to prevent them from buying guns... Nothing to see here.)

After we outlaw guns and cars, we need to look at swimming pools. I've heard many a gun lover state how much more dangerous they are than guns, and something has to be done about them.

Okay, maybe I was a loudmouth before, but here I usually kept my opinions to myself.

Anyone who wants to defend the weapons used for these atrocities can go do something vulgar and sexual to themselves with a gun.

Wow. When is the last time anybody ever killed or wounded 100 people in five minutes with a car? The cognitive dissonance is amazing.

In truth, a lot of this IS a false argument. The truth is that, while (sadly) hundreds of people are murdered every year by these mass shootings....THOUSANDS are murdered every year by crooks (rather than nutcases) with guns. And our immediate concern should be to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

The standard NRA canard is that crooks get guns by STEALING them, but that's bullshit. Most of the guns are purchased through STRAW PURCHASERS. The best way to prevent straw purchasers from retailing those guns to crooks and gang bangers is to have a NATIONAL or even a universal STATE gun registry. If you buy a gun, you have to be able to prove that you didn't RE-SELL it to a criminal. ie-if a criminal is caught with a gun, the government (federal or State, I don't give a shit which) should be able to ask WHO actually purchased that gun. Then you can go back to the person who purchased it, and ask them WHY they obviously no longer have it. There should also be a law that you have to report a stolen gun, so the straw men don't have that excuse.

The best thing about the SANDY HOOK bill, which was defeated, was that it would have cracked down on straw purchasers.

As for terrorists, both foreign and domestic, the best thing we could do is have a registry/record of who's buying BULLETS. No regular citizen needs to stock up with thousands of bullets. Generally, only terrorists and secessionist crackpots do that.

Then those sales should by law be registered in their name, entered in to a data base, and local, state and federal law enforcement should be notified. In fact, every sale of this type should be registered. Then if there is a suspicious pattern of activity, it can be checked out and monitored.

You know, just like when you buy a car. Or buy or sell stock. Or a house. Or land.

Why is this such a big deal?

It boils down to "we shouldn't have laws, because criminals will just ignore them."
