The State of Maine has about 1.33 million residents. In the 2012 General election, just under 725,000 ballots were counted state-wide. Ms. Maddow got 1,500 letters for the first month that Governor LePage had invited the people of Maine to ask him to resign. It seems reasonable that the number of letters diminished quickly after that first month. People who felt strongly wrote immediately. Most likely, anyone else moved onto other things.

Simply, the number of letters the Governor received represent just 0.2% of the voting public in Maine. I suspect that every politician gets letters of this type but they don't represent any meaningful statistic in this case.

I'm certainly not defending Governor LePage. He's a ignorant, bigoted idiot just like his buddy, Donald Trump. But the time and effort put into this news report could have been directed towards more important and worthy targets. I do love it, though, when Republicans are called to task.

By what the governor said v. what actually happened, is a 450x discrepancy. He said 4 people, RM shows over 1,800. So in that regard it makes for an effective calling out of the GOP bigot. And since reTHUGs are notoriously in love with numbers, this will be one that they will not want repeated.
