Humans want convenience. Too many of us demand it and shun those who cannot provide it. Thus, convenient transportation, electricity, air conditioning, plastics and other non renewables.

We caused this. And we can say with some certainty that it's going to get worse before it gets better.

....which wouldn't be a problem except this one was in a GOLF COURSE.

The rich are supposed to be unaffected by all of this stuff.

Toxic algae bloom blankets Florida beaches, prompts state of emergency

(CNN) — Jordan Schwartz, owner of the Ohana Surf Shop, said he wanted to cry when he saw the green slime -- a toxic algae bloom -- covering his swath of Stuart Beach on Florida's east coast
.

"Animals are in distress, some are dying, the smell is horrible," he told CNN on Friday. "You have to wear a mask in the marina and the river. It's heartbreaking and there is no end in sight."

"This town is 100% driven by tourism but the tourism is empty," he said. "You go to the beach and it's the height of summer and we have empty beaches, empty restaurants, empty hotels."

"We are used to seeing our rivers continually being polluted year after year but we have never seen our beaches polluted. What we are witnessing right now, it's the tip of the iceberg," he said.

is they seemed to be more concerned with the loss of profits from the loss of tourism then they are about the effects on the environment and wildlife. Poor manatee is suffocating and aside from the individual trying to help him with the water hose, the biggest concern of everyone else is "it's the 4th of July weekend and we're losing tourism dollars!", screw you a-holes.

is, since the Governor has declared a state of emergency will be the Federal Government will compensate the businesses affected due to lost tourism dollars, nothing or any money will go to correcting the problem(s). Neither party is concerned about doing anything to effect change to the issues which have caused this to occur, evidenced by both parties platform's to continue to back policies and businesses which cause issues like this, or others, which are destroying our environment and planet, profits for businesses come first and foremost.

...such as excess nitrogen and phosphorus runoff from industrial ag and all those lush, green Florida lawns. Sewage leaks and discharges from sewage treatment plants. Faulty septic systems. The list goes on and on. Cram that many people and development into a fragile ecosystem like the Florida peninsula and this and worse is bound to happen. And don't be moving up here to North Carolina, trashing ours. You've shit your own nest. Now lie in it.

In short, as Pogo said....

what can you expect - slime , of course. Florida has always had an unholy relationship to the sugar industry and it just got worse with each Republican governor and Republican administration.
