(60,334 posts)1. Shopping Mall - more like an indoor market.
I was in Tianjin last year on business. On the weekends they had a guide for us. We visited a mall in Tianjin and at the time all I could think of is what would happen if a fire broke out.
These places are cramped, stuff stacked to the ceiling and the isles are tight with people and stuff from the shops stacked out into the isle. These places are usually several floors one floor just like the previous. All the shop keepers hawking for any sale they can make.
The one in Tianjin was particularly scary, wonder if this that mall/market.

(2,397 posts)3. I was in Shenyang last year when this fire started.
This was during Chinese New Year. The year before, a brand new CCTV station in Beijing went up in smoke. Amazing. And BTW, don't go shopping in China during Christmas. Its like being stuffed into a small box. Not the place to be if a fire breaks out.

- This building was brand new and also succumb to fires started by errant fireworks during New Year's celebrations in 2009 (although some blame poor construction materials and/or supervision).
