(2,830 posts)What exactly is the target audience for this ad? No context, just a bunch of moderately identifiable white men stating their opinion?

(3,626 posts)that's just weak. The right thing is to attack your opponent yourself, not whine that your opponent is attacking you too harshly.

(11,304 posts)For once dems are finally fighting dirty just like the repubs showed them how to. Way to go Mr President. Way to go. Put it to them on their own turf. Wake up dems and look at the boss to show you how to play a dirty game. That is the only way you are going to win.

That must have hurt to leave their bubble.

(1,034 posts)The Obama haters if you will. Anyone who says to you "Whatever happened to Hope and change?" will be one of those pigeons.
Repubthugs will win, if they do, with voter disenfranchisement. Knocking a very small percentage of voters off the rolls will gain the vote. That is what is going on. Rmoney and his henchmen are not doing retail office and volunteers in every county politics but wholesale politics, buying up media time and saturating with ads. Unfortunately, negative ads work. Scare a small number of voters away from the polls, your level rises, simple as that. You can hear disgruntled voters saying all the time things like "Both parties are the same." and a myriad of similar statements. Having a response ready is important, "No, both parties are not the same..."
Anti union sentiment is a big one. Of the top 10 spenders in special interest PAC's, only two are union related and both of those are below the top 5, SEIU and AFSCME. And the right (wrong) is making an effort to keep union members from speaking through thie union with more laws.
Frick, these people are insufferable, they won't stop.

(3,056 posts)Those of you that can remember it, anyway!
Anyhow, James Carville KNEW how to run a campaign...responded to every attack by the Bushies in the same news cycle and never allowed a charge to go unchallenged. After the debacle of the Dukakis campaign, I'm sure the Repugs expected the Dems to just roll over as usual, but they fought back at every turn. So the Bush campaign started whining like little girls. Bush gave the analogy of a gladiator (he being the gladiator) being buried up to his neck in sand, and when he fought back by biting his opponent "in a tender place", everyone cried "unfair". Basically the dems were using republican tactics and the repubs just didn't know how to deal with their own stuff being turned on them. After Clinton won the election, Molly Ivins (bless her soul, I miss her!) called the gladiator story the moment she knew Clinton had it locked up.
I think this may just be that moment. To be honest, I'm really not sure that Mittens is even going to make it through to the convention. This is NOT going away, and for all their whining, the repubs can't explain it, turn it around on Obama, or make it disappear. I think there's blood in the water.
And BTW, just in case any of you guys missed it, Schieffer is NOT happy about being used in this ad...the campaign did not ask his permission (are we surprised?) to use him in it.
