(128,839 posts)and has really only known Barack Obama as her President (she could repeat his name at 2 when he was first elected). She and many of her friends literally reacted the same way as that little girl after the election, not only knowing he was done his final term, but especially when they realized that they would not be able to have a "Madam President", who he supported and praised.
When I was her age, Nixon was just re-elected (1972) and I remember the election discussions in school (the old Weekly Reader had a spread). I think these youngin's have it worse because they were literally drowning in "election coverage" from both the network/cable channels and the internet, even if they tried to escape it by watching their own little shows.

Such a gracious, dignified, thoughtful and solid person. My heart is aching so.

(23,307 posts)watched this tonight. This is always kind of a cheezy event but we watched because it was our President's last holiday tree lighting. As Mr. Obama grabbed a microphone and began to sing Feliz Navidad, my son said "wow, he can sing!" Yes, baby, he can sing...
How great is it that our president can step up, grab a microphone and not embarrass us or get us blown up? Those days are soon to be over, friends.
Thank you First Family. It has been an honor.
ps - our Prez can sing!
