He gives to charity because he knows, deep inside, that he should be giving back more to society (but of course, doesn't want to have to pay more in taxes, due to greed, or for whatever reason). So he gives to charity to ease the guilt. And as a side benefit, gets glorified by the likes of Erin, and even might get his name on a building or two.

While giving to charity is awesome, paying one's fair share of taxes and giving to charity is even better.
