Face it. We have diversity down in terms of Ellison and Perez as the heads of the DNC. But, we need to expand the map if we want to take Congress in 2018, and that means making in roads in to red states, not just picking a speaker who plays well in California and New York. I thought Beshear came off as down to earth and sincere, which is a big contrast to Trump.

A Southern Bernie Sanders, in some ways.

We need more people like that if we're to expand our reach and overcome the "elitist Volvo-driving academic" meme GOP propagandists have made so many voters believe about Democrats (while whoring for billionaire misanthropes themselves, of course).

I think Beshear really resonated with heartland voters. He did a great job.

Plus, it highlights how McConnell is turning his back on Kentucky voters.

There have been calls for the "rising stars" without considering that those "stars" have already been actively out there over the past couple years. We are at the point where they reach a point of diminishing returns.

The Democratic "base" is fired up and protesting daily and even some previously apathetic and sleeping Democrats have awoken to join these protests or run for office for the first time. But there are now some in the "buyers remorse" club who are a bit disillusioned (particularly those who realize that they are about to lose their health coverage) and if they can be captured, you can hopefully redirect them not only for the federal elections but for the state elections.

Well said as always. We need to promote people who truly inspire.

And while having people who are in good terms with Wall Street and corporate boardrooms is important too, only proven reformers will broaden our base in any meaningful way.
